National Math Contests

The American Mathematics Competitions.
The American Mathematics Competitions consist of a series of increasingly
difficult tests for students in middle school and high school. These contests
include the AMC
8, the
AMC 10, the
AMC 12, the
AIME, and the
USAMO. The top students on the final test are invited
to participate in the Math Olympiad Summer Program, where students train for
possible inclusion on the United States Mathematics Olympiad
team. Visit the Art of Problem Solving's
AMC Forum. The AMC's website now hosts a
calendar of math events. Art of Problem Solving
sponsors the AMC and the expansion of the number of students invited to partitipate
in the USMAO.

American
Regions Math League. ARML consists of 15-person teams
representing schools, cities, counties, or states at three locations in the
US. The competition is team-oriented and very challenging,
with a focus on problem solving and some mathematical writing. Note that the
NCTM now hosts
ARML Challenge Problems of the month for part of each year.

Davidson
Fellows Scholarships. Davidson Fellows receive a $50,000, $25,000
or $10,000 scholarship in recognition of their outstanding
achievements in the areas of science, technology, mathematics, music, literature
and/or philosophy.

MATHCOUNTS.
Mathcounts is the premier middle school extracurricular program
in the United States, with competition at school, local, state, and national
levels. Many avid problem solvers get their start here. Visit the Art of

Math Olympiads for
Elementary and Middle Schools. A widely-used introduction to
problem solving mathematics for elementary and middle school students.

The Mandelbrot Competition. The Mandelbrot
Competition introduces high school students to accessible new topics in
mathematics while providing stimulating, challenging problems. The team
test portion of the contest emphasizes mathematical writing skills and effective
group work.

William Lowell Putnam Competition. The premier contest for
undergraduate students nationwide. Cash prizes for top students. AoPS now has
all three published compilations of past exams and solutions.

Siemens
Westinghouse Competition. The Siemens Westinghouse Competition
is a leading research-based science and math competition for high school
students. The competition awards college scholarships ranging from $1,000
to $100,000. Students may enter as individuals or as members
of a team.

Mathematics Talent Search. The USAMTS is a free
program through which students write solutions to periodic problem sets.
It is an excellent introduction to tackling advanced problems and the art
of writing proofs.

Computing Olympiad - Pair your problem
solving skills with computers in this series of contests
leading to the US International Olympiad in Informatics.

Like the USAMTS, this is a free contest in which students
write full solutions to periodic problem sets. The problems are extremely
