At AoPS, we believe students learn best through challenging problems that develop problem-solving and critical reasoning skills via productive struggle and creative thinking. Our goal is to help students build a deep conceptual understanding of mathematics by exploring why it works.

As a math curriculum intern at our San Diego headquarters, you’ll collaborate with and be mentored by experienced mathematicians and educators. You will help create engaging content for motivated middle and high school students.

Past math curriculum intern projects include:

  • Designing in-person activities for AoPS Academy classes
  • Creating digital interactive activities for online classes
  • Developing lessons for online self-paced courses
  • Curating and writing competition problems for USAMTS, AoPS Online’s Practice AMCs, and AoPS Academy’s Problem Solvers Contest

The Math Curriculum Intern will:

  • Develops new educational materials with input from more senior team members. 
  • Incorporates feedback from team members and other stakeholders into their materials. 
  • Makes content corrections to existing materials based on student and teacher feedback.
  • Builds their understanding of and experience with the students within their target audience as well as the people who will deliver their content. This may include grading, assisting, teaching, or team-teaching courses, if relevant. 
  • Completes other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Experience teaching or tutoring mathematics preferred, ideally including experience with K-12 students
  • Strong mathematics content knowledge
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to translate complex mathematics concepts into clear, engaging, and understandable content
  • Strong creativity, with the ability to develop original problems and puzzles
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Readily seeks out and learns from feedback
  • Passion for education
