We are looking for a Junior Associate Director to help lead our Santa Clara campus. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong subject knowledge in math and/or language arts and have outstanding classroom management skills. Exceptional communication skills and pedagogical instincts are needed not only to teach our advanced curriculum, but also to coach and collaborate with other instructors. The Junior Associate Director program is 6-12 months long, and prepares participants for promotion into long-term Associate Director and Senior Instructor roles.
The Junior Associate Director will:
- Teach the AoPS curriculum in dynamic, participation-oriented classes that focus on understanding and developing skills, not on rote memorization.
- Support other Directors in the hiring and training of part-time staff.
- Assist with campus administrative and logistical operations, as guided by the academy’s full-time staff.
- Participate in the admissions assessment process to determine a student's academic ability and overall fit for the program.
- Collaborate with Directors on best practices for supporting student needs.
- Engage with customers in a variety of ways, including consultations, in-person Q & A, emails, and phone calls.
- Help implement and facilitate campus community-building activities.
The ideal candidate has:
- Bachelor’s degree required, strongly preferred to be in education or a field closely related to their subject area
- Advanced degree related to subject area preferred
- Minimum 1-year teaching experience, with experience working with advanced K-12 students preferred
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including comfort interacting and communicating with both students and parents
- Strong organizational and priority management skills
Work Schedule
AoPS Academy is an after-school program, most of our classes and family meetings occur during the evenings and on weekends. As such, it's expected that Associate Directors work a nontraditional schedule during the school year. Summer hours typically shift to a more standard Monday to Friday work schedule.
