Weekly Update: AMC 10/12 B, HMMT, Math Contests, and Classes
February 12, 2019
Last week, the AMC 10/12 A was held all over the world, and students had the chance to discuss the exam the day after through the AoPS Online Math Jam about it.
Additionally, AoPS Founder, Richard Rusczyk, posted solutions to 5 of the problems, which students could study and review.
If you haven’t had a chance yet, you can watch Richard solving the problems on YouTube – like with the video below, for problem # 22 of the 2019 AMC 12 A.
This week also has several math competitions taking place!
The second round of the Rocket City Math League starts February 11th, and runs through March 1st. It’s a four-round math competition for middle and high school students, run by students, that takes place over the course of a year. You can learn more about it on their website.
This week also sees the High School Math Contest 5 for Math League take place. This contest is for high school students, and is one of 6 contests taking place for the Math League. Learn more about the Math League and contests it conducts at their website.
The Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament also takes place this week, on Saturday, February 16. It’s a massive math competition for high school students, with two tournaments held each year. Each tournament draws about 1,000 students from around the world, including top scorers at highly competitive national and international olympiads. General information about the tournaments can be found on the here.
Classes starting this week include:
- Prealgebra 2 (Tuesday & Wednesday)

On Valentine’s Day, we’ll hold a Math Jam to discuss the last 5 problems each on the AMC 10/12 B. Even if you didn’t take the tests, practicing this type of problem solving is excellent practice!
