Special AMC 8 Problem Seminar B Online Math Course

Special AMC 8 Problem Seminar B

This course is a special two-day, 5-hour seminar to prepare for the AMC 8, which is the premier fall math contest for middle school students. The AMC 8 also gives students early problem-solving experience that is valuable towards the high-school level AMC 10 and AMC 12 contests, which are the first stage in determining the United States team for the International Math Olympiad. In this course, students learn problem solving strategies and test-taking tactics. The course also includes a practice AMC 8 test. This course is new in 2019 and covers different problems than the Special AMC 8 Problem Seminar A.

Who Should Take?

This class is appropriate for students in grade 8 or below attempting to make the Honor Roll on the AMC 8.
  • If a student already consistently scores above 18 on the AMC 8, this class is probably not necessary.
  • If a student is unlikely to score more than 8 on the AMC 8, that student should consider our Prealgebra curriculum.
The material for this class is new in 2019 and is distinct from the Special AMC 8 Problem Seminar A.

Lesson 1 Word Problems and Number Theory
Lesson 2 Counting and Geometry

By any metric, the course is an overwhelming success. We were immensely lucky to have these incredibly passionate instructors teach this class. By having different presenters teach different topics, you all capture the beautiful diversity of chemistry and optimize the expertise with which it is revealed. When a student asks a question, we have a panel of world-class experts ready to contribute--and argue about--an explanation. This concordance of expertise is immensely powerful. The class topics are fresh, fascinating, and relevant. The peer group is phenomenal - ChemWOOT is like a reaction chamber of some of the most motivated chemistry students in the country. That's powerful. This class has been simply fantastic.
