How to play a game of chess on the AoPSWiki:

Starting a game

On a page, add the following lines:

{{Template:Chess position|<!--
 8 -->rd|nd|bd|qd|kd|bd|nd|rd|<!--
 7 -->pd|pd|pd|pd|pd|pd|pd|pd|<!--
 6 -->  |  |  |  |  |  |  |  |<!--
 5 -->  |  |  |  |  |  |  |  |<!--
 4 -->  |  |  |  |  |  |  |  |<!--
 3 -->  |  |  |  |  |  |  |  |<!--
 2 -->pl|pl|pl|pl|pl|pl|pl|pl|<!--
 1 -->rl|nl|bl|ql|kl|bl|nl|rl|30}}
 <!-- a  b  c  d  e  f  g  h   -->

Here, the notation stands for:

  • l and d stand for white and black sides (light and dark).
  • p stands for pawn, r stands for rook, n stands for knight, b stands for bishop, q stands for queen, and k stands for king.

Moving pieces

The row and columns are numbered by the MediaWiki comments. To move a piece, simply delete the two letters representing the piece in the original position and paste them into the square you wish to move them into. To capture, delete the piece being captured.

It is advisable to keep track of the moves during the game in order to keep it more organized, though it can be tracked via the history tab.

Current games / tournaments

The first AoPS Chess Tournament is currently under way.
