* At the bottom of the page there should be proper links in the '''See also''' section, which will include the relevant [[:Category:Succession templates|succession template]], and links to any articles in the Wiki which are relevant to the problem and not already linked.

* The relevant succession box and how they are used can be found via [[:Category:Succession templates]] (note that different succession boxes may use slightly different formats). For example, the [[AMC 12]] box can be used for [[2006 AMC 12A Problems/Problem 20]] by: <code><nowiki>{{AMC12 box|year=2006|ab=A|num-b=19|num-a=21}}</nowiki></code>.

Shortcut:

The following standards should be followed when adding contest problems and solutions to the AoPSWiki.

Naming

The names for mathematical competitions should follow the following basic formats:

  • Year Y [Round Z] Contest X
    • Examples:
2005 AMC 12A
1983 AIME
2006 USAMO
  • The problem page should be at Year Y [Round Z] Contest X Problems
    • Examples:
2005 AMC 12A Problems
1983 AIME Problems
2006 USAMO Problems
  • Individual problem/solution pages should be at Year Y [Round Z] Contest X Problems/Problem #
    • Examples:
2005 AMC 12A Problems/Problem 20
1983 AIME Problems/Problem 15
2006 USAMO Problems/Problem 1

When referring to contests, avoid using ambiguous abbreviations. For example, instead of using BMO, write out either the Balkan MO, the Belgian MO, or the British MO.

Structure of the contest problem pages

When going through this, it is helpful to be looking at an example such as the 1983 AIME.

  • On the main page of a contest there should be link to the [[Contest X Problems and Solutions]] page where Contest X is the name of the contest.
  • The Problems and Solutions page should contain links to each year for which the competition has problems. These links should be named using the form [[Year Y [Round Z] Contest X]] where the round number is inserted only when applicable.
  • On the Year Y [Round Z] Contest X page there should be the following links:
    • [[Year Y [Round Z] Contest X Problems]]
      • This page should contain all of the problems from the test as they appeared on the test. There should be no links within the problem statements.
      • Immediately after each problem there should be a link to [[Year Y [Round Z] Contest X/Problem W | Solution]] where W is the number of the problem. On these pages the key terms in the problem statements should be linked to other articles in the wiki.
    • [[Year Y [Round Z] Contest X Problems/Problem 1 | Problem 1]]
    • [[Year Y [Round Z] Contest X Problems/Problem 2 | Problem 2]]
    • $\vdots$

Formatting individual problem pages

The general format for a problem/solution page should be:

== Problem ==

== Solution ==

== See Also ==
{{Succession box}}

[[Category:DIFFICULTY SUBJECT Problems]]

Quick tips

  • Don't add template pages (i.e. don't create a page for a problem unless you are ready to put the problem statement on it).

Categorizing problems

It helps to categorize problems by their type and difficulty. The following table provides the codes for all of the possible categories for problems.

Introductory Problems Intermediate Problems Olympiad Problems
[[Category:Introductory Algebra Problems]] [[Category:Intermediate Algebra Problems]] [[Category:Olympiad Algebra Problems]]
[[Category:Introductory Combinatorics Problems]] [[Category:Intermediate Combinatorics Problems]] [[Category:Olympiad Combinatorics Problems]]
[[Category:Introductory Geometry Problems]] [[Category:Intermediate Geometry Problems]] [[Category:Olympiad Geometry Problems]]
[[Category:Introductory Number Theory Problems]] [[Category:Intermediate Number Theory Problems]] [[Category:Olympiad Number Theory Problems]]
[[Category:Introductory Trigonometry Problems]] [[Category:Intermediate Trigonometry Problems]] [[Category:Olympiad Trigonometry Problems]]
