MathILy-EST is an 8-week intensive summer research experience for exceptional first-year college students, with entering and second-year college students considered as well. It will take place at Bryn Mawr College,

MathILy-EST provides early research opportunities each year for six college students who are deeply but informally prepared for mathematics research. We provide a stipend of $3800 for students who are chosen for the REU, along with room and board for the duration of the program.

Who is Eligible?

High school students who will be entering college in the fall or students who have already graduated.

Application Process

The application process consists of personal information, two recommendations, information about your mathematical studies, and a multi-question personal statement, all of which must be received by April 17, 2019 for the 2019 REU.

Topic and Director

In 2019 the research topic of MathILy-EST will be the combinatorics of flat origami, an area that combines discrete mathematics with geometry, under the direction of Dr. Thomas Hull.
