Power is loosely defined as the speed something can do work. The SI unit for power is the Watt.

Formal Definition

Power is the amount of work that is done over a given period of time. It is also the derivative of work. If $P$ is power, $W$ is work, and $t$ is time, then:

\[P=\frac{W}{t}\]
