Hello, my name is Billy Dorminy, and my favorite word is 'poecilonym'. 'Poecilonym' is just a synonym of ... 'synonym'!

I have had quite an interesting past, not much of which has been mathematical. In a time far, far away, as in second grade, I participated in MOEMS, earning an unknown score, but I did get a 3 on one of the tests. And then, I was not ready to join the world yet, so I went back into studying. (Or something like that.)

Then there was 7th grade. I happened, for no reason at all :D, to go to the National Word Power Challenge. It so happened that I came in 4th. (Out of the 3 million participants nationwide.) And I heard about Mathcounts then.

8th grade (2005) I went back to Word Power and came in 2nd, winning a <nowiki>$</nowiki>15,000 scholarship. This time I heard about the [[International Science and Engineering Fair]]. The 6th grader who won is the sister of an AoPSer, one who hasn't posted, it is true, but still an AoPSer. And Ming-Ming went to National Mathcounts 2006.

I also went to National Mathcounts (despite the state competition being held the _day after_ state WP). I recruited 2 AoPSers there. Took the AMC-12 too, with a score in the 80s. Oh, did I mention I went to state Geography Bee?

9th grade I took the AMC12A with a score of 98.5 and the AMC10B with a score of 136; I got a 7 on the AIME. I also gave my Word Power study stuffs to Joe Shepherd, who used them better than I had and came in 1st, winning <nowiki>$</nowiki>25,000.

I participated in the [[International Science and Engineering Fair]], managing to go to ISEF from the Georgia State Science Fair (most people go to ISEF from their regional competition).

In my 10th grade year, I was on the 2nd place Georgia team at the [[Duke Math Meet]]. I think I contributed my part  in the proof rounds.  I also organized and captained the 11th place iTest team; my teammates were Andrew Ardito, Laura Zehender, Matthew Sheen, and Bryan Anderson (only one of which I am not sure is an AoPSer).

In other mathematical adventures, I took the AMC 12 A, scoring a 132, and the AMC 10B, scoring a 150. My AIME score of 8 was sufficient to get me into USAMO, where I scored a 12.

In vocabulary, I participated in the [[National Vocabulary Championship]], where I made nationals <nowiki>[and recruited at least one other person who also made Nats.]</nowiki>. I also participated in the [[North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad]].

I made ISEF from my regional competition and was in the top 10 in GA for the second year in a row. At [[ISEF]], I won <nowiki>$17500</nowiki>: 15000 scholarship from Alcatel-Lucent, 1000 cash from the [[ACM]], and 1500 for a 2nd award in CS [plus I got an asteroid named after me :)].My project essentially applied a mathematical concept to encryption that had never been used before, opening up a new field of encryption research. Furthermore, I became a [[Davidson Fellow]] from that, winning a <nowiki>$10000</nowiki> scholarship from the [[Davidson Institute]].

Over the summer of 2007, I went to a [[team policy debate]] camp and was an intern at [[Sandia Labs]] for two weeks.

In the 2007-2008 year, I was captain of the 14th place iTest team. As I have previously, I went to the Duke math meet, and was on the 1st place [[Georgia ARML]] team. I was top score on the [[Kennesaw State]] multiple-choice test. I came in 4th in [[comprehensive]] at [[Vestavia Hills Math Tournament]]. I made ISEF again and did some other stuff.

In 2008-2009, I was named an [[Intel STS]] semifinalist.

See my contributions over there in the toolbox. Some of the pages I'd like to take some credit for:

* [[International Science and Engineering Fair]]

* [[Improper fractional base]]

* [[van der Waals equation]]

* [[ideal gas law]]

I am a Christian. Be that not sufficient?

I am quite pleasantly homeschooled, and have been forever and ever. It is quite pleasant indeed. I have 5 siblings, which is not nearly so many as Joe Shepherd has :). Joe must have so much fun.
