Kathy joined AoPS in 2020 and has fifteen+ years of experience in mathematics and gifted education including coaching MATHCOUNTS teams, facilitating math circles, managing math competitions at UT Dallas, and more. Passionate about connecting ideas, people, and resources, Kathy has spent her career guiding generations of students and their families to get the most from their educational journeys. Both of Kathy’s sons are AoPS alums who have greatly benefited from the experience.

Ellen earned her BS in Applied Math from UC Berkeley, where she led the Cal “Women in Mathematics” organization and taught at the LA, Berkeley, and Stanford Math Circles. Since joining AoPS full-time in 2019, she has led multiple California AoPS Academy locations, including as Campus Director of Pleasanton, where she cultivated a vibrant community of students, staff, and families. Afterward, Ellen joined AoPS Headquarters in San Diego, serving as Director of Virtual Campus and Director of Engagement and Growth for Textbooks and Online Services. Currently, she is the Campus Director at AoPS Academy Irvine but her journey with AoPS began in childhood, falling in love with puzzles and problem-solving through AoPS textbooks. She competed in contests like MATHCOUNTS and the AMCs and later coached others to success. Her enthusiastic, inclusive, and inquiry-based teaching style encourages students to take on challenges, build resilience, and find joy in learning. She fosters curiosity and empowers every student to explore and grow as a confident problem solver.
Dr. Hui S. Jiang is a licensed psychologist, director of the 3E Center—a psychological group practice serving neurodivergent children and their families—and the Admissions Director at Epsilon Camp, a residential summer program for children ages 7 to 12 who are captivated by mathematics. She works closely with families to promote growth, resilience, and balance.
Grayson Maas joined AoPS in 2015. He earned his PhD in Sociocultural Anthropology from the University of California Santa Barbara where he conducted research, wrote, and taught about the various factors contributing to underrepresentation in STEM education and in the workforce. He has spent the last ten years working with Art of Problem Solving to bring the best rigorous and engaging math education possible to students.
Dr. Tam serves as Professor of Political Science, Computer Science, Law, and Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University. She is also an affiliate at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Professor Emerita at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Professional Researcher in the School of Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco.
Jalaja brings electrical engineering expertise and a decade in tax consulting. She discovered AoPS seeking challenging education for her kids, and was so impressed by its distinctive problem-solving approach that she became both a parent and ambassador. She believes providing children strong foundations today prepares them for tomorrow.
Melissa joined AoPS in 2016 after a decade in language and teaching. She has a BA in Comparative Literature (UC Irvine, studying abroad in Sweden) and MA in English (UCSD). She has 10+ years teaching Language Arts from elementary to college. She enjoys books, landscaping, piano, and learning Spanish.
Longtime puzzlehunter and puzzle writer, former Googler (Search, Code Jam), lapsed chemist/biologist, combinatorics admirer. Besides computer science and math, Ian loves baseball, history, movies, tabletop RPGs, theater, trivia, weightlifting, and wildlife, among many other things!
