CEMC Fryer Contest
The CEMC Fryer contest is a proof-based competition for students in Grade 9 and under. It is usually held in April. It is held at the same time as the CEMC Galois (Grade 10) and the CEMC Hypatia (Grade 11).
Format
The Fryer contest consists of 4 questions, each with 3-4 parts in each question. The contest is out of 40 marks. Each question is worth 10 marks. There are 2 types of parts, short answer and full solution.
- Each short answer part is worth 2-3 marks, with 1-3 short answer parts in each question. Partial marks can be awarded if relevant work is shown.
- Full solution parts are worth the remainder of the 10 points in each question, with 1-2 full solution parts in each question. Marks are awarded for completeness, clarity, and style of presentation.
Every question further you go, there will be more full solution parts and fewer short answer parts. Each participant has 75 minutes to complete the contest.
The awards for the contest are listed below:
- School Medal Champion: Awarded to the highest scorer in each school at the discretion of the CEMC. Not awarded if the highest scorer does not score higher than the School Medal Champion Cutoff.
- Certificate of Distinction: Awarded to the people who score in top quartile (25%)
- Honour Roll: Awarded to the people who score in the top (2-5%). There are 5 groups that the Honour Roll is divided into. The Honour Roll is published on the CEMC website with the results. There is also a Team Honour Roll that is for the top scoring schools. The score is calculated by adding the top 5 scores in the school.
