Richard Kalman
Richard Kalman is a prominent figure in the mathematics education community, particularly through his leadership in the Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS). He served as Executive Director of MOEMS from 1995 to 2010 and currently holds the title of Executive Director Emeritus. Even after stepping down from his executive role, he continues to contribute by writing problems and engaging in public speaking .
Kalman has collaborated with the Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) platform, notably hosting online "Math Jams"—interactive sessions aimed at helping educators, known as PICOs (Persons In Charge Of), develop effective strategies for teaching mathematical problem-solving to MOEMS students.
In addition to his educational initiatives, Kalman has edited several influential books compiling MOEMS contest problems. These include MOEMS Contest Problems: Volume 2, which features 425 problems along with hints and solutions, and Volume 3, co-edited with Nicholas J. Restivo, containing 400 problems from contests held between 2005 and 2013 . These resources are widely used by students and teachers preparing for math competitions.
Through his leadership, educational outreach, and publications, Richard Kalman has made significant contributions to nurturing mathematical talent among young learners.
