The Texas MATHCOUNTS team has achieved remarkable success in national competitions, securing the championship title nine times: 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2023, and 2024. This record is unparalleled, matching California's nine victories.

2025 Texas State MATHCOUNTS Competition

Congratulations to Shaheem Samsudeen of Rice Middle School, who was the first place individual for the Texas State MATHCOUNTS Competition. Ereckson Middle School placed first in the team competition. Their coach, Sheryl Perkins, will coach the 2025 Texas National MATHCOUNTS Team consisting of: Shaheem Samsudeen (Rice Middle School), Ayush Narayan (Rice Middle School), Nathan Liu (St. Mark's School of Texas), and James Stewart (Evergreen Preparatory).

Individual Achievements

  • 1984: Michael Edwars clinched the national title.
  • 2007: Kevin Chen was both the national Countdown Competition and National Written Competition Champion.
  • 2008: Bobby Shen secured the National Written Competition title.
  • 2017 & 2018: Luke Robitaille emerged as the National Countdown Competition Champion in both years.
  • 2023: Channing Yang won the National Countdown Competition, with the Texas team also taking the national title.
  • 2024: Channing Yang became the National Written Competition Champion and the Texas team clinched the national title once again.

Notable Teams

In 2024, the Texas national team comprised Nathan Liu (Cal and Walt Wester Middle School), Drake Tan (Sartartia Middle School), Vincent Wang (Kealing Middle School), and Channing Yang (Davidson Academy Online). They secured first place under the guidance of coach Hui Quan from Kealing Middle School.

Regional Excellence

Beyond the national stage, Texas teams consistently excel in regional competitions. For instance, McMichael Middle School's MATHCOUNTS team achieved an 11-year winning streak at the East Texas/Pineywoods chapter competition in 2024, showcasing exceptional teamwork and mathematical prowess.
