supermarkets suck

by MathSlayer4444, Aug 31, 2016, 2:29 AM

So I'm really good at shopping and stuff
and this supermarket was like "wow, you're really good at shopping and stuff! We're going to give you a free watermelon!"
so I was like "ok cool watermelons are cool"
so I went and got the watermelon
but when I went back home, to my surprise, I found that the watermelon was rotten and disgusting.
Obviously, no one wants a disgusting watermelon. This is perfectly natural.
So I went back to the supermarket, and I complained.
"I want a refund," I said, "this watermelon serves no purpose to me and I thus do not want it."
Once again, a perfectly natural feeling.
However, the store manager came over and totally flipped out.
He took me aside, and started yelling and cursing at me, it was insane.
"Is this some sort of a joke? I don't think this is funny!"
I tried to explain that it wasn't a joke, and that I sincerely did want a refund for the watermelon.
But before I could even get a word out of my mouth, the store manager had me physically removed from the supermarket.
"Don't come back for a period of time whose length I shall not inform you of!" he says, "then I'll let you in."

I suppose it's natural that he thought I was making a joke, after all, I had fooled around in the supermarket fairly recently, but I still think it's a little unfair that he would just kick me out like that for asking a perfectly natural question.

I wholeheartedly agree with Mathslayer4444 and the manager had no right to kick him out. I think, however, that there might be a more underlying reason for the manager being upset about Mathslayer4444, and it's that he is just too good for him. Maybe it's also because he didn't expect Mathslayer4444 to find out the store was just secretly getting rid of its secret stash of rotten watermelon, hoping that since it was a freebie that people would just not care and throw it out. Or...

I guess you're good at shopping but not good at throwing things in the trash?

well i dunno i guess i was just goofing around a bit
but there were other kids goofing around too at the time so the manager was pretty angry by the time i asked for the refund

also, yeah, that's a pretty good question: should I get a refund for the watermelon?

im actually interested in a different, but related question:
say the watermelon was instead tickets to Justin Bieber's final concert
now i love JB <3 <3 <3
but say I didn't want to go for some reason
there's no good exchange for some other item
so should I be able to get what the tickets would cost?

To play devil's advocate, there's a sign on the door that nobody reads that says "We have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason".

So to all those who didn't understand the metaphor:

The supermarket is AoPS.

CantonMathGuy has been spending a lot of time on AoPS, posting and (maybe) enrolling in AoPS classes, so he says "So I'm really good at shopping and stuff." The "free watermelon" was free WOOT. Of course, Canton accepted.

However, Canton didn't enjoy the "free watermelon," so he returned the free WOOT. The "store manager" are the AoPS administrators. Since the "store manager" kicked him out, which means banning for an indefinite period of time.
