ice cream > yogurt
but in indian families there's almost always yogurt and never ice cream
could be different in cspal's case but that's what I've noticed XD
OH YEAH my parents eat red chilli plain too
I do it sometimes if the food is too bland

from your description, it sounds like you were going to an Indian restaurant. I've been to some of those before, and they usually have some pretty spicy food. Some restaurants provide mango lassi; if you can get that, do it. It's sort of like a mango yogurt smoothie thing (idk exactly how to describe it), and it really takes the edge off the spicy food.
also yeah rice helps. most grains cut spiciness

hm I consider my spice tolerance probably above average
it has gone down over the years since I left China oop
but if i stayed where I was born my spice tolerance would be at least ten times better
and if you didn't guess which part of china i was born in
there are three provinces notorious for spicy food xD
i was born in one of them
I'm pretty sure that province isn't exactly the #1 of spice tolerance province in China
the one mao zedong came from is probably first
but it is more famous than the other two to nonChinese
idk why
