Unfortunately, the book is not perfect. Below is a list of the known errors. If you know of an error not on this list, we would appreciate a short email to books@artofproblemsolving.com describing the error.
Errors in the text:
- Chapter 7, Problem 7.42: On the back of a $5 bill, the statue of Lincoln is actually only 5 millimeters tall and the entire memorial is 25 millimeters tall.
Errors in the solutions:
- Chapter 3, Exercise 3.5.1(d): The first 33 should be 32.
The errors below have all been corrected in the 2016 printing.
Errors in the text:
- Chapter 1, page 20, paragraph after solution ends: "...giving us the original number..."
- Chapter 3, page 116. The second sentence in parentheses above the "Important" box should read, "So, 2^3*3 is the same prime factorization as 3*2^3."
- Chapter 3, Problem 3.24: The last sentence of the first paragraph of the solution should read, "Therefore, N+1 is not divisible by 2."
- Chapter 3, Problem 3.27(d), page 121: The original problem should ask about 2916 = 2^2*3^6, not about 108 = 2^2*3^3.
- Chapter 3, Problem 3.31: "...the day care center rings its bells..."
- Chapter 5, Problem 5.3(d), page 204: The second line of the solution should begin "7x+13".
- Chapter 7, Problem 7.10: The problem asks for the blit:blot ratio, but the solution provides the blot:blit ratio. So the answer to the question as asked is 8:5 (the reverse of the 5:8 blot:blit ratio given in the solution).
- Chapter 8, Section 8.3, page 337: Near the bottom of the page, the line, "...we will have a total of 130% of 100" should read, "...we will have a total of 130% of 400."
- Chapter 9, Problem 9.7(b), page 358: The expression inside the final radical in the solution should be 4x-5.
- Chapter 10, Exercise 10.2.2: The wrong angle is marked with the measure x+30. An obtuse angle along line k should marked with measure x+30, rather than an acute angle.
- Chapter 15, page 547: The third 24 card at the top of the page should have the numbers 24, 15, 12, and 6 instead of 24, 15, 12, and 5.
Errors in the solutions:
- Chapter 13, Problem 13.23(c): The solution should begin, "Since the average is 91".
