AoPS Academy is a program of Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), a global leader in K–12 advanced education. AoPS is on a mission to discover, inspire, and train the great problem solvers of the next generation. Since 2003, AoPS has trained hundreds of thousands of the country’s top students through its online school, in-person academies, textbooks, and online learning systems. AoPS Academy offers unique problem solving curriculum at its in-person locations across the country as well as through the virtual campus. 

The AoPS Academy in Millburn, NJ is hiring part-time Summer Language Arts Teaching Assistants (TAs) with strong reading, writing, and grammar skills to support our campus during our summer camps. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who want to work with motivated younger students and contribute to the AoPS Academy community. 

This is a part-time, IN-PERSON position for our 2025 camps. 

Our summer TAs contribute greatly to the success of our students and are an integral part of our Academy family. This may be a great fit for you if you enjoy interacting with students, providing feedback on writing assignments and essays, and helping students feel more confident about language arts concepts. 

Summer TAs support AoPS instructors in the classroom to help keep students engaged and on task. They work with students during class to help them understand the material by asking/answering questions and providing feedback on assignments. Job Duties:

• Work with students individually or in small groups.
• Help the instructor keep the class engaged and focused.
• Provide exceptional verbal or written feedback on writing assignments.
• Collaborate with instructors and full-time staff to create an excellent experience for all students.

Qualifications:

• Must be 16 years old or older
• Possess strong language arts content knowledge in reading, writing, and grammar with the ability to help students navigate advanced concepts
• Ability to provide clear, thoughtful, and thorough feedback on students’ writing assignments
• Experience with/interest in working with younger students strongly preferred
• Exceptional written and spoken communication
• Positive and encouraging attitude that helps students feel comfortable asking questions 
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Familiarity with the AoPS curriculum is not required, but a plus

Location and Schedule: 

As this is an in-person position at our Millburn campus location, candidates must be located in Millburn/Short Hills, NJ or the greater area and must be able to commute to our campus. 

During the summer, we offer multiple two-week camps between July-August. Camp classes are held Monday-Friday for 3 hours a day, with both morning and afternoon classes. We are currently hiring for the following summer camp: Writing Camp 2-3: Mission Pen Possible, July 28th-August 8th, 1:00pm-4:00pm.

Benefits and Compensation:
The Teaching Assistant pay rate at our Millburn location is $15.50/hour. Some benefits of the position are:
