DevOps Engineer

As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining the resilience of our cloud-based infrastructure and services. You will help ensure our systems are scalable, reliable, efficient, and secure, supporting our mission to discover, inspire, and train the great problem solvers of the next generation.

The DevOps Engineer will:

  • Implement, test, monitor, maintain, and document cloud infrastructure for all of our products.
  • Manage and maintain ci/cd pipelines using GitOps methodologies.
  • Develop and manage Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) configurations.
  • Empower other engineers by automating manual tasks and creating self-service tooling for common needs.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Leadership, Software Engineers, and Software Architects to ensure best practices in release management and deployment processes.
  • Participate in on-call rotation, assist with incident response, troubleshoot and resolve production issues, and participate in incident post-mortems and analysis to prevent future incidents.
  • Test, evaluate, and code review others’ programs and infrastructure.
  • Document new and existing backend/infrastructure resources in various formats.
  • Identify and communicate reliability issues to stakeholders, adopting risk management best practices and consulting with leadership and senior team members for effective risk reduction.
  • Estimate and clearly communicate development timelines, roadblocks, and development status.
  • Maintain an understanding of current web technologies and infrastructure best practices and proactively work to expand knowledge and skill-set.

The ideal candidate has:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a Software Engineering or DevOps role
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, including the ability to work on both solo and collaborative projects
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools, preferably Terraform, is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong experience creating containers using Dockerfiles, managing containers using compose, chart or similar is preferred
  • Experience working with containers using AWS ECS, Kubernetes and Docker
  • Familiarity with Node.js (preferred) and/or PHP in a professional environment
  • Familiarity with MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Apache, and nginx or similar technologies
  • Prior full-stack or backend software engineering experience is preferred
