Are these really the symmetric sums? I am used to calling these the elementary symmetric sums so that symmetric sums are any sums that are symmetric. The point is that any symmetric sum can be written as a polynomial in the elementary symmetric sums. --ComplexZeta 14:53, 3 July 2006 (EDT)
