Math Field Day competitions are held in every county, around December. Each school is to pick students to represent the school (for an average sized school, usually 3 students), and let them compete in a written competition, a mental estimation competition, a mental math competition (where only exact answers are correct), and a physical estimation competition. Grades 4-9 compete in this format. Grades 10-12 are slightly different.
The top 3 students are chosen to represent the county in their region. Then, the top 3 in the region represent the region in the state competition.
This year, the state Math Field Day competition was held at Fairmont State University.
