It is assumed that the initial square is the unit square with coordinates (0,0), (0,1), (1,0) and (1,1). Note that jumping always yields points with integer coordinates.

This "inverse" sequence may be applied to the unit square itself, which would result in a smaller square of side length 1/3. But this is not possible, since jumping always yields integer coordinates.
Note that this not only applies to squares: no configuration can ever be enlarged by jumping.
