Writing scholarships

The following list of writing scholarships — scholarships granted based primarily upon a submitted essay — is primarily for American students. This list can be reorganized to incorporate scholarship programs in other countries. Just make that reorganization as clear and as clean as possible.

Additions to this list are welcomed and encouraged. Please don't be stingy about letting students in on how they can finance their educations!

General Writing Scholarships

  • LawyerBound’s “Bound to be a Law Student” Scholarship applicants must be planning on attending an accredited United States law school in the future. This is open to everyone from high school seniors, college students & First Year Incoming Law Students who currently have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Sacramento “Art of Healing” Scholarship 2021 Rather than writing a traditional essay, we would like for students to submit an original piece of artwork that captures “The Art of Healing.” This piece can be any creative medium including but not limited to sculpture, video, painting, mosaic, poem, or photo.
  • Safe for All: Florida Visitors Roadway Safety Scholarship We believe that our roadways should be safe for all drivers. As such, we must work together to develop solutions to keep all drivers safe. In a 500-word essay, please provide a solution to reduce the occurrence of fatal accidents for tourists on Florida’s roadways.
  • Small Business Marketing Scholarship Zampi, Inc. A small business marketing platform is offering 1,000 dollar scholarship. To enter, simple create a small business marketing plan (min 800 words) and submit it on our site!
  • Mixed Martial Arts Scholarship Eligible applicants are required to submit a video or 800-1500 word essay on the topic “Best Martial Arts for Self Defense” in order to be considered.
  • Sports and Extracurricular Involvement Scholarship PlayyOn.com, a provider of online tools to organize and run sport and recreation activities, is offering a US 2000 Annual Scholarship in support of participants of high school and college sports and extra-curricular activities.
  • Voy Media Entrepreneur Scholarship 500-1,000 word essay on the topic "Since it was created, the Internet has both helped and complicated the rise of entrepreneurship. How would you leverage the Internet to develop a business? In addition, how would you manage the increased competition and other complexities that an online marketplace produces?". USD 2500.
  • THGM MUSE Scholarship For any US or Canadian students heading into a writing-related program, such as creative writing or journalism. Apply for this USD 500 award by May 15 of each year, including a 400-600 word short story in prose or in script.
