Overview

The abacus is a manual calculator invented in China that can do addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square roots and cube roots. All calculations are done with sliding beads. Where the abacus originated is a question not fully answered. To the experienced operator, the abacus is a blazing fast calculator and some people use the abacus to do fast mental calculations. The abacus is still widely used in rural parts of China and Japan.
