The complex plane is a plane with two perpendicular axes: the real axis and the imaginary axis. Any complex number $z$ can be plotted on it, with $\mathrm{Re}(z)$ as the real coordinate and $\mathrm{Im}(z)$ as the imaginary coordinate.
