Ernst Friedrich Ferdinand Zermelo(July 27, 1871-May 21, 1953) was a German logician and mathematician. He created the axiom of choice, helped create the Zermelo–Fraenkel set theory, and is also well known for his proof for the well-ordering theorem.

Life

He studied philosophy, physics, and mathematics in college. He was appointed chair of mathematics of Zurich University. He disapproved of Hitler's regime, so he left Germany.
