Structure

Each team competing needs an adult supervisor who registers at the web site and then signs up as many teams as they want. Each team may have as many as six students.

Teams can compete any time during a ten-day window. Since 2010, middle school teams have 60 minutes to solve 20 problems, and high school teams have 90 minutes to solve 30 problems. Before 2010, middle school teams have 15 problems, and high school teams have 25 problems.

Each answer to a problem is a nonnegative integer. All of the problems can be solved without a calculator, but the test allows using calculators, referring to reference books, or writing computer programs. However, computers can not be used to get outside help.

The contest is in English, but problem translations are provided in many languages. All competitors receive a certificate of participation or an award certificate.
