23-24 school year recap + summer

this is quite late for a school year recap as school ended more than a week ago, but I was busy on vacation (aka grinding research 24/7)
academics
overall, my grades are fine - I think my unweighted is 3.9+ for both semesters, which is acceptable and I'll live with it since it's only 9th grade gpa. I definitely could've done better though, considering that the only subject that drew me back from a 4.0 in semester 1 was math, and I guess the main challenge for me in the past year was my studying style.
back in middle school, I never bothered to study for any of my math tests because middle school math was easy. precalc, though, truly threw the mental damage at me right after the first few tests. I only briefly reviewed the materials and worksheets, thinking that I knew how to do everything, but then finding out that the tests are a lot harder than the material. going forward, I'll definitely start to preview my material before school starts since I'll be dealing with 4 APs + 2 honors next year
social
nothing drastically changed, but I did make new friends & some old friendships faded out a bit. I'll try to stop overthinking social problems too much next year and just focus on academics
miscellaneous
the only satisfactory digital art piece I did this year was the one I did in january/february, and I somewhat dropped art class for the math grind, so I did not really progress much art-wise. I'll hope to pick up art classes again next year & hopefully start to make a portfolio. I'd say I definitely matured more compared to the start of 9th grade & my views on a lot of things changed as well (in a good way)
I also found some interest in writing (namely my writing blog). writing helps me to express some ideas/thoughts in my head in a poetic way instead of blatantly spitting out what's in my mind. I often don't have enough time to really sit down and finish a piece, but either way I still found myself enjoying writing
I also kept my drawing sketchbook for a school year now! I started using it September 2023, and it's satisfying to see how much my art style improved throughout the year
to be honest, 9th grade wasn't as bad as I pictured it to be, probably because my school's 8th grade was a pretty challenging year, which built us for 9th grade stress more. next year, though, I hope I survive :,)
summer
I went on vacation from 6/1 - 6/7 to the east coast, but I honestly spent most of the time struggling with my research homework (oops). AP chem class started today, and today was not that bad considering it's the first day - I hope the rest 18 days also won't feel too bad lol. we do have quite a lot of homework & textbook to read ourselves, but I hope I balance chem homework & research homework well
and yeah I'm technically already a sophomore now (marked by my school), but I'm definitely not ready to take on that role yet lol (I will, eventually)
