Lorde Shares Sweet Texts From Taylor Swift

Lorde gave fans a glimpse into the process of creating 2017's Melodrama and shared a sweet private text conversation with Taylor Swift who gave her some big sister advice.

The singer and songwriter celebrated the sixth anniversary of her second studio album, Melodrama, on Friday in a series of Instagram Story posts. Lorde shared photos from the time she was creating the album — which later went on to become a critical success.

In one slide, Lorde shared a picture of herself at the Park Hyatt Hotel in New York City and joked that she didn't realize it was an “extremely expensive hotel” and “spent most of my [album] advance on hotel bills.”

Lorde also shared a snippet from a conversation she had with her friend Taylor Swift at the time of the album's release. Swift sent words of encouragement after Lorde expressed disappointment that Melodrama didn't initially sell as much as her first album did.

“You will always be imagined in my mind in a rowboat with Annie Lennox floating down a river of cool cerebral ethereal dreams but don’t-f**k-with-me vibes all around you,” Swift wrote in the text. “And I don’t think first week record sales singularly define a legacy.”

Lorde responded at the time with, “i love you so much for this.” She also captioned the screenshot, “Taylor was very kind and not wrong.”

Melodrama was released on June 16, 2017, and sold more than 100,000 copies in its first week. It was nominated for Best Album at the 60th annual Grammy Awards. Lorde previously won two Grammys for her breakout hit, “Royals.”

After sharing Melodrama memories, Lorde left a cryptic but hopeful message to fans: “Lots of love and see you… soon."
