Walton MathFest
Walton MathFest is an elementary and middle school level math competition offered at Walton High School (Walton MathFest was a high school (JV/V) level math tournament until the 2017-2018 school year).
At the middle school level, it offers a written test, a ciphering round, and a GUTS round. The GUTS round is a team event and contributes to the over-all team score. MathFest also includes estimation games and occasionally other activities, such as an escape room (offered 2017). Registration is 35 dollars per team if paid before competition day and 40 dollars per team if paid on competition day. For individuals, the cost is 10 dollars per competitor.
Elementary MathFest includes three rounds: -Computation : a timed test of basic skills (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, square roots & percent-conversion). -Ciphering : consists of 10 questions; students are allowed 2 minutes to solve each question. -Problem-solving : a 30 minute test comprised of 25 questions. No calculators are allowed and no penalty for guessing.
