Problem #1

The value of $x + x(x^x)$ when $x = 2$ is:

$\textbf{(A)}\ 10 \qquad\textbf{(B)}\ 16 \qquad\textbf{(C)}\ 18 \qquad\textbf{(D)}\ 36 \qquad\textbf{(E)}\ 64$

Solution

Simple substitution yields \[2 + 2(2^2) = 2 + 2(4) = 10\]

Therefore, the answer is $\fbox{(A) 10}$
