Problem

Evaluate $(x^x)^{(x^x)}$ at $x = 2$.

$\text{(A)} \ 16 \qquad \text{(B)} \ 64 \qquad \text{(C)} \ 256 \qquad \text{(D)} \ 1024 \qquad \text{(E)} \ 65,536$

Solution

Plugging in $2$ as $x$ gives $4^4$, which is merely $\boxed{\text{(C)} \ 256 }$.
