Condensed matter physics deals with the macroscopic properties of solids and liquids. It involves chemistry, quantum Mechanics, and statistical mechanics.
Some important concepts
- Electronic band structure; i.e., the arrangement of electrons in the material.
- The nature of phase transitions.
- The scattering of light by crystals. (This can be used to determine compound structure.)
- The usage of magnetic fields for NMR spectroscopy.
