I remove anyone whenever they post something that has something to the effect of "I know 85% of you are heartless, but 15% of you will repost this as your status message..." or any related inanities.

At one camp there was a girl who begged me to get a facebook because she really wanted a friend whose name is "Vladimir." Too bad, I didn't make one. I stay away from it just like video games and drugs.

I used to care, but nowadays, I USE facbeook to meet new people, from AoPS and MIT, and I've made many valuable friends. If someone bugs me or annoys me, I will simply delete them, but unless they make active posts that are annoying, I couldn't care less to filter my facebook.
Facebook, unlike gmail, let's me know more about a person, e.g. their passions, what they do in their free time, and it makes for a whole lot more personal experience than gmail chat.

I'm too lazy to do that. I'm fairly sure that most people with a facebook don't chat regularly with most of them. For example, I'd have to unfriend, like, 200 people to get the people that I talk to on a regular/daily basis.

I keep old friends (although for me, that includes someone I haven't spoken to in 5 years - for you it might be 20
). There shouldn't really be a need to remove any friends because you have the option to decline a friend request initially.

Yeah, there's obviously no difference.
Anyway, looks like I didn't get unfriended. Yay

I think facebook is a great way to keep in touch with people who you probably won't ever see again in your life if you've only met them once or something like that. For instance, we had a youth event in my area (and I was lucky enough to be on the planning committee for it!) and <18 year olds from the entire country who had done amazing things came to talk. I obviously wanted to keep in touch with them (since they were cool people), so I looked them up on facebook and friended them. Even though I'd known them for a grand total of ~28 hours.
I suppose it's pretty pointless to delete friends on facebook, *especially* if you come across them again and have to re-friend them or something. That would be awkward, unless they suck with technology and you can say something like "Oops facebook is so stupid and accidentally unfriended you!" or something like that.
@Yoni2b: I think it's kind of weird to want to see a person's passions or whatever; they usually lie about them. For example: "I went to school at Hogwarts and my interests are fighting Voldemort." Plus I personally find it kind of awkward to go read through someone's interests to see what they like. It's kind of creepy and stalkerish...O_o but it is a good place to meet someone since it's easier to find someone on facebook than it is on gmail, and facebook is a social networking site that a lot of people use. People might use other email providers other than gmail (although I don't really know why), so facebook is a good tool for that.
...wow that was a long comment

50%+ of my friends have Facebook with more than 300 friends. I can guarantee each of them only knows at most 50% of their friends.
As for me, I have around 120-130 friends. Constantly around that. Almost all I know well, or often interact with (not necessarily on Facebook).
Finally, Facebook is better than Gmail in one thing... My friends use them more, so I can contact them easier on Facebook instead on Gmail (or any mail service; heck, I think at least one of my 23 classmates never opened their Inbox again except to confirm activation mails).
