Open source rocket/jet car

There's a gang across the pond building a spectacular new car, the Bloodhound SSC. The goal of this project is to break (well, obliterate, honestly) the current land-speed record, and be the first car to reach the 1000mph mark.

This car is awesome! It starts off with a jet engine. However, cars with jets on them are slow (barely faster than sound, that is). So these guys strapped a race-car-engine-powered solid-fuel rocket (like a firework or a space shuttle) on top of the jet to make it go even faster.

The best part? The entire project is open-source, meaning that they're sharing everything that they're doing and everything they're learning with slow folks like you and me.

The BLOODHOUND SSC project is unique when compared to other ground breaking engineering ventures in that all the information about the research, design, build and testing of the car is available to teachers and students, and of course to anyone that wishes to visit the website.
