Beast Academy

by rrusczyk, Aug 24, 2011, 4:25 AM

Beast Academy is our new project for future math beasts who are now in elementary school. As you'll see from the sample pages here, Beast Academy guides will be in a colorful comic format. This beautifully illustrated delivery allows us to engage students visually, while the teachers and students of Beast Academy simulate the exploration, discussion, and discovery that generates deep understanding and appreciation of mathematics. The guides will be supplemented by Practice books which will reinforce the material with a wide variety of problems and puzzles. While the books cover the Core Standards, they will also introduce many areas of math that are not part of the typical curriculum, and will offer the sorts of inquiry and challenges that help students develop into Math Beasts.

We now seek parents and teachers to try out a chapter of our first book, which is at the third grade level, and to provide feedback on its suitability and effectiveness. To request a sample, please click here, and to join the Beast Academy mailing list, click here.

I've noticed that you at AoPS are trying to reach out to little kids.

You create a prealgebra book and then this.

I have to say that's nice but rising freshman like me want AoPS stuff too (we're looking at you, interm+oly geo book).

Beast Academy...so beast. I really wish that I had these materials when I was in grade school.

But, as yugrey stated, is it possible to create more resources for students in Middle School and High School? I recognize the importance of an early start, but...we need some new resources too. :)

@gws98: No offense, but what's so wrong with the "old" ones that we need new versions? AoPS has covered most of the topics imaginable without going to the most obscure fields you can think of.

No offense taken. What you said is very true. We indeed have many resources to delve into. :)

I'll reiterate my thoughts on the usefulness of these new AoPS materials. However, an expansion to Alcumus, some more topic videos, or the yearned for Intermediate Geometry book would be a good addition to the "old" materials.
