Grandi Series is weird??
sadas123   22
I was just watching this video and I kinda understood what they were saying they said:

$1-1+1-1+1-1+1-1 .... = \frac{1}{2}$

so at first I thought that = 0

but then I realized that if you give an variable such that:

$x= 1-1+1-1+1-1 .....$
then you get
$x = 1-x$
isolating x you get that
$2x = 1$
so
$x= \frac{1}{2}$

is there a way to get the definite answer because I am still confused.

Trigonometry equation practice
ehz2701   8
There is a lack of trigonometric bash practice, and I want to see techniques to do these problems. So here are 10 kinds of problems that are usually out in the wild. How do you tackle these problems? (I had ChatGPT write a code for this.). Please give me some general techniques to solve these kinds of problems, especially set 2b. I’ll add more later.

General techniques so far:

Trick 1: one thing to keep in mind is

$\frac{1}{2} = \cos 36 - \sin 18$.

Many of these seem to be reducible to this. The half can be written as $\cos 60 = \sin 30$, and $\cos 36 = \sin 54$, $\sin 18 = \cos 72$. This is proven in solution 1a-1. We will refer to this as Trick 1.

Not__Infinity   0
As y'all guys know, IOQM 2025 is to be held on 7 September 2025, we have likely to having just 55 days approx. So, I wanna solve some questions which are of ioqm lvl or above(slightly higher only). Nevertheless, anyone can give any questions of any difficulty, easy too!

Although idk any thread related to it. This will be an good stuff as questions will be organised and how much the lvl of question asked in ioqm is collected here and anyone can practice.

You can ask for suggestions for preparation also.

Thank you

What's the best way to prepare for amc10 to qualify for AIME? I've been grinding alcumus on insane difficulty and Mathcounts trainer but when I look at past AMC10 exams, such as the 2022 Amc10, I find myself struggling to answer 15-20.

Summer Mission Math Tournament (SMMT)
cowstalker   1
Source: Mission San Jose Math Club
Hey everyone, MSJ Math Club is excited to announce the 5th annual Summer Mission Math Tournament (SMMT) on Sunday, August 3rd! Like previous years, we will have both individual and team rounds:

The Individual Round will be a competitive math-style round, with 2 divisions. The Warrior division will be similar in difficulty to the AMC 10, and the Champion division will be similar in difficulty to the AIME.

In the Team Rounds, you'll be able to work in a team of up to 4 people. There will be a Guts Round, in which your team will work on 27 competitive-math style problems divided into 9 sets of 3, one set at a time. There will also be an Estimathon Round, which consists of 15 Fermi-style estimation questions. For example, you may be asked: “How many laps of a standard track is equivalent to the circumference of Jupiter?”

There will be prizes as always, and anyone who participates will receive a FREE Brilliant Premium Subscription!

If you’re interested, please register on the Sign Up Form and join the SMMT Discord Server . For more info about the contest, check out the SMMT 2025 Info Doc.

We look forward to seeing you (virtually) at SMMT 2025!

Know me where i m wrong
Not__Infinity   7
So, the problem is

Show that there is no integer solution to this expression
(a+b)((a^2)+(b^2)) = 2001.

My solution:-

Now, factoring 2001 gives 3×23×29= 2001

Case 1: (a+b)((a^2)+(b^2)) = 3 ×667.

Solving for b gives and irrational. Let me give the proof.

Take a+b=3.....(¡) and ((a^2)+(b^2)) = 667...........(¡¡)

Rearrange (¡) for a, which is a = 3 - b.

substitute value of a in (¡¡) and you'll get an quadratic equation. Solving it will give and irrational value of b.

Doing this repeatedly, making cases from these factors above mentioned and comparing, we get that no integer value will be obtained. Hence proved.

Correct me if i am wrong.

Source is some thread which idk. But i find this interesting thing.

Generalization of 2014 Brazilian Revenge Problem

Source: 2023 June 谜之竞赛-7
Let \( k \geq 2 \) be an integer, and let \( f, g \) be non-constant integer-coefficient polynomials with positive leading coefficients. A positive integer \( n \) is called good if $f(n) \mid k^{g(n)} - 1.$

Prove that there exists a positive real constant \( c \) such that for any integer \( n \geq 3 \), the number of good integers among \( 1, 2, \cdots, n \) does not exceed \(\dfrac{cn \ln \ln n}{\ln n}.\)

Let \( m, n \) be positive integers, and \( x_1, x_2, \cdots, x_n \) be integers greater than 1 satisfying
\[x_1! \cdot x_2! \cdots x_n! = m!.\]Prove that: (1) \( n \leq 1 + \log_2 m \); (2) There exists a positive real constant \( c \) such that for sufficiently large \( m \),

We are halfway through summer, so be sure to carve out some time to keep your skills sharp and explore challenging topics at AoPS Online and our AoPS Academies (including the Virtual Campus)!

Over 60 summer classes are starting at the Virtual Campus on July 7th - check out the math and language arts options for middle through high school levels.

At AoPS Online, we have accelerated sections where you can complete a course in half the time by meeting twice/week instead of once/week, starting on July 8th:

MATHCOUNTS/AMC 8 Basics

MATHCOUNTS/AMC 8 Advanced

AMC Problem Series

Plus, AoPS Online has a special seminar July 14 - 17 that is outside the standard fare: Paradoxes and Infinity

We are expanding our in-person AoPS Academy locations - are you looking for a strong community of problem solvers, exemplary instruction, and math and language arts options? Look to see if we have a location near you and enroll in summer camps or academic year classes today! New locations include campuses in California, Georgia, New York, Illinois, and Oregon and more coming soon!
MOP (Math Olympiad Summer Program) just ended and the IMO (International Mathematical Olympiad) is right around the corner! This year’s IMO will be held in Australia, July 10th - 20th. Congratulations to all the MOP students for reaching this incredible level and best of luck to all selected to represent their countries at this year’s IMO! Did you know that, in the last 10 years, 59 USA International Math Olympiad team members have medaled and have taken over 360 AoPS Online courses. Take advantage of our Worldwide Online Olympiad Training (WOOT) courses
and train with the best! Please note that early bird pricing ends August 19th!
Are you tired of the heat and thinking about Fall? You can plan your Fall schedule now with classes at either AoPS Online, AoPS Academy Virtual Campus, or one of our AoPS Academies around the US.

Cannot post Latex, Account is already 23 days old
lrnnz   2
Hello, a class i'm in requires us to post problems in the High School Math section, but the posts I make are hard to read as they don't contain any Latex. I was told my account needs to at least be 2 weeks old before I can start making posts with Latex, but i still can't
