Steve Olson is the author of the recently released book Count Down. Count Down chronicles the 2001 US IMO team and the problems on the 2001 IMO, while exploring many fascinating areas regarding intelligence, creativity, girls in mathematics (he discusses Melanie Wood’s success in addition to the 2001 team members), and the nature of genius. This Math Jam will give students the opportunity to ask questions about the book, his opinions on what it takes to become as strong at problem solving as the IMO team members, and how to approach a career in nonfiction writing. His first book, Mapping Human History, was a finalist for the National Book Award.
