May is an exciting month! National MATHCOUNTS is the second week of May in Washington D.C. and our Founder, Richard Rusczyk will be presenting a seminar, Preparing Strong Math Students for College and Careers, on May 11th.

Are you interested in working towards MATHCOUNTS and don’t know where to start? We have you covered! If you have taken Prealgebra, then you are ready for MATHCOUNTS/AMC 8 Basics. Already aiming for State or National MATHCOUNTS and harder AMC 8 problems? Then our MATHCOUNTS/AMC 8 Advanced course is for you.

Summer camps are starting next month at the Virtual Campus in math and language arts that are 2 - to 4 - weeks in duration. Spaces are still available - don’t miss your chance to have an enriching summer experience. There are middle and high school competition math camps as well as Math Beasts camps that review key topics coupled with fun explorations covering areas such as graph theory (Math Beasts Camp 6), cryptography (Math Beasts Camp 7-8), and topology (Math Beasts Camp 8-9)!

Be sure to mark your calendars for the following upcoming events:
[list][*]May 9th, 4:30pm PT/7:30pm ET, Casework 2: Overwhelming Evidence — A Text Adventure, a game where participants will work together to navigate the map, solve puzzles, and win! All are welcome.

300 MAP Goal??
Antoinette14   78
N 25 minutes ago by Konigsberg
Hey, so as a 6th grader, my big goal for MAP this spring is to get a 300 (ambitious, i know). I'm currently at a 285 (288 last year though). I'm already taking a intro to counting and probability course (One of my weak points), but is there anything else you recommend I focus on to get a 300?

Mock Mathcounts Exam, anyone?
luppleAOPS   28
N Mar 15, 2025 by imtiyas1
I am currently in the process of making a Mock Mathcounts Sprint and Target Examination. The difficulty is about National difficulty, if not more difficult. PM if you are interested, and I will PM (and post) when my rounds are completed and for more details. PLEASE be patient, as it may take a while for me to finish. :D

But if you are interesting please PM and/or (but at least PM me to officially sign up) if you are interested.

Also note that I may not even finish it.

*Also you may need Word 2007 or higher to view some of the problems

*CHECK MY REVISED SAMPLE PROBLEMS OUT (if you scroll down)

If you are going to upload the exams here then it would be best to convert to PDF files before uploading, as then almost everyone can view it. Just click "Save As", then select the PDF file mode.

In fact, I have completed five sample questions, so you guys know a good idea of what's going to be on the mock :D

*EDIT: Question one should be ratio of x to v, not x to z

Your #4 isn't too specific. It doesn't specify whether you use the numbers as digits or whether you can use operators, like $2+3=5$ and $6 \cdot 6=36$.

Sure, anyone who wants to be a helper can. If you are a helper you cannot participate. If you are a helper I will PM the Target and Sprint to you so you can make comments, question wording, extra decorations, revisions, etc. before the actual thing is released, and discuss/revise my answers.

I will provide a pdf copy as well as a Word 2007 attachment.

GOOD NEWS, I just finished both the Target and Sprint. I tried to make the exams look as realistic as possible, however the difficulty is much more balanced, therefore the last few problems are not significantly harder than the beginning ones like in normal MATHCOUNTS exams. The problems may be a bit difficult, but that's okay because the more difficult the better, right?

I took a couple of problems from AOPS books but most of them I just made up out of my own personal experience. It is possible that you will see a relation to MATHCOUNTS problems but that's probably just me rewriting whatever I have encountered.

Anyway this is just to say that the test may be out soon. Not in like the next day or two, because I still have to figure out the answers and stuff.

Its out!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember, I strongly urge you to use the normal time limits for Sprint and Target. Obviously, I can't force you to do that. But please do.

Like I said, difficulty will be around National, however problems may be more balanced than National as well.

Due date will be around April 2nd. If not enough tests are turned in by then, I will move the due date later.

Well anyway, have fun!

*of course, PM me your answers.

Also, if you are not signed up you can still PM me answers

I just realized that question 28 on sprint round is kinda stupid. Sorry. I was originally going to change that one out but I kinda forgot.

*However a (possibly?) useful formula is Click to reveal hidden text for sum of the first n triangular numbers. I'll give you that. (try to prove it? :D)

Sprint

Target

In my opinion, the sprint test is an _____state sprint and the target round is an ____nationals target. Overall, the quality of the problems was incredible in both rounds :D
