a My Retirement & New Leadership at AoPS
rrusczyk   1347
N an hour ago by Novmath
I write today to announce my retirement as CEO from Art of Problem Solving. When I founded AoPS 22 years ago, I never imagined that we would reach so many students and families, or that we would find so many channels through which we discover, inspire, and train the great problem solvers of the next generation. I am very proud of all we have accomplished and I’m thankful for the many supporters who provided inspiration and encouragement along the way. I'm particularly grateful to all of the wonderful members of the AoPS Community!

I’m delighted to introduce our new leaders - Ben Kornell and Andrew Sutherland. Ben has extensive experience in education and edtech prior to joining AoPS as my successor as CEO, including starting like I did as a classroom teacher. He has a deep understanding of the value of our work because he’s an AoPS parent! Meanwhile, Andrew and I have common roots as founders of education companies; he launched Quizlet at age 15! His journey from founder to MIT to technology and product leader as our Chief Product Officer traces a pathway many of our students will follow in the years to come.

Thank you again for your support for Art of Problem Solving and we look forward to working with millions more wonderful problem solvers in the years to come.

And special thanks to all of the amazing AoPS team members who have helped build AoPS. We’ve come a long way from here:IMAGE

What should I do
Jaxman8   1
N 18 minutes ago by neeyakkid23
I recently mocked 2 AMC 10’s, and 2 AIME’s. My scores for the AMC 10 were both 123 and my AIME scores were 8 and 9 for 2010 I and II. What should I study for 2025-2026 AMCs? Goal is JMO.

Practice AMC 10 Final Fives
freddyfazbear   1
N 6 hours ago by WannabeUSAMOkid
So someone pointed out to me that the last five problems on my previous practice AMC 10 test were rather low quality. Here are some problems that are (hopefully) better.

21.
A partition of a positive integer n is writing n as the sum of positive integer(s), where order does not matter. Find the number of partitions of 6.
A - 10, B - 11, C - 12, D - 13, E - 14

22.
Let n be the smallest positive integer that satisfies the following conditions:
- n is even
- The last digit of n is not 2 or 8
- n^2 + 1 is composite
Find the sum of the digits of n.
A - 3, B - 5, C - 8, D - 9, E - 10

23.
Find the sum of the coordinates of the reflection of the point (6, 9) over the line x + 2y + 3 = 0.
A - (-17.7), B - (-17.6), C - (-17.5), D - (-17.4), E - (-17.3)

24.
Find the number of ordered pairs of integers (a, b), where both a and b have absolute value less than 69, such that a^2 + 42b^2 = 13ab.
A - 21, B - 40, C - 41, D - 42, E - 69

25.
Let f(n) be the sum of the positive integer factors of n, where n is an integer. Find the sum of all positive integers n less than 1000 such that f(f(n) - n) = f(n).
A - 420, B - 530, C - 690, D - 911, E - 1034

Let $H$ be the orthocenter of acute triangle $ABC$, let $F$ be the foot of the altitude from $C$ to $AB$, and let $P$ be the reflection of $H$ across $BC$. Suppose that the circumcircle of triangle $AFP$ intersects line $BC$ at two distinct points $X$ and $Y$. Prove that $C$ is the midpoint of $XY$.

@above not to be rude, but there's a 0% chance that score makes mop. mop this year is at minimum >=35, i'm predicting 36 makes while some 35 people will make but there will be tiebreaks

if it makes you feel better, you are only predicting one 7, with multiple 6s, which likely means you are over predicting your score, so you wouldn't miss mop by just 1.

True, my score might be too low as 34. However, it is my predicted score so we will see. Also, I am estimating my lowest possible score.

bro just look at the amount of people that are predicting >=35 alone just publicly on aops (there's certainly more people that I didn't notice or didn't share). also i'm predicting a 36 on jmo, but i'm not eligible for mop btw

But let's be honest, there were way too many cheaters this year. MAA has got to fix this.

Please explain how you got docked on 5 out of the 6 problems.

If your writeups are just bad but the solution is correct, then you should not be docked. Otherwise, if major parts of your solution are wrong, you should be docked to 0+. I personally do not believe that you missed minor parts of the correct solution on 5 out of the 6 problems.

last year red was 30, but this year maybe a little higher

wait so red mop is the easiest?

technically there is no easiest. And it varies cuz for JMO path cutoff is much higher than other 3 AMO paths since JMO is easier. All of them are equally important tho in all at MOP, like nothing really has an advantage over the other. Except Black MOP idk maybe that has some difference since its the TST group I think.

@above not to be rude, but there's a 0% chance that score makes mop. mop this year is at minimum >=35, i'm predicting 36 makes while some 35 people will make but there will be tiebreaks

Where are you getting this information from?
Also, what was your score on JMO, may I ask?

You can see some (predicted) scores on https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GnCi5OIJVg0SGh67qDcO3znLINJarUebjXQ7TRaJkWk/edit?gid=0#gid=0

DM me if you want me to add your score!

does this not imply that cutoff will be higher than 35???

I mean I guess that's the one JMO are invited to
Black MOP is the top scorers on previous year TST and ofc the IMO team if some are left
Blue MOP is the next one, which is the next top 15
Green MOP and Red MOP: top 30 freshmen/sophomores on USAMO and the top 12 of USAJMO

there's no objective answer to this, but personally i think it's red. generally, i've heard the advice "if you're consistent with easier problems, take jmo (red cutoff), if you're fairly specialized in a subject, take amo (green cutoff)"

people tend to overpredict, but it seems fairly likely that it will be >=35

hopefully we both make

Please explain how you got docked on 5 out of the 6 problems.

If your writeups are just bad but the solution is correct, then you should not be docked. Otherwise, if major parts of your solution are wrong, you should be docked to 0+. I personally do not believe that you missed minor parts of the correct solution on 5 out of the 6 problems.

thats not how it works, people rarely get docked this much. your lack of knowledge about scoring combined with your inexperience makes me believe you are lying about something.

You can choose what you want to believe. However at the end of the day my score isn’t affected by what you think.

You are making me mad. Do not make me mad. This matter is not about my email being flooded with notification. While I want to nip that in the bud, the matter of more concern for me is the principle that you should not be posting so much on the forums. I am too tired to notify the moderators, but please consider your actions against me and the community and do better in the future. Thanks.

Let me tell you my opinion about this circus.
You posted a set of problems publicly. It has been seen by thousands of thousands of students. And you can’t say… well, don’t comment on them unless we let you! And it lasted more than two weeks! This is ridiculous. It’s like forbidding a forest to grow.
