[$10K+ IN PRIZES] Poolesville Math Tournament (PVMT) 2025
qwerty123456asdfgzxcvb   4
N 3 hours ago by qwerty123456asdfgzxcvb
Hi everyone!

After the resounding success of the first three years of PVMT, the Poolesville High School Math Team is excited to announce the fourth annual Poolesville High School Math Tournament (PVMT)! The PVMT team includes a MOPper and multiple USA(J)MO and AIME qualifiers!

PVMT is open to all 6th-9th graders in the country (including rising 10th graders). Students will compete in teams of up to 4 people, and each participant will take three subject tests as well as the team round. The contest is completely free, and will be held virtually on June 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (EST).

Additionally, thanks to our sponsors, we will be awarding approximately $10K+ worth of prizes (including gift cards, Citadel merch, AoPS coupons, Wolfram licenses) to top teams and individuals. More details regarding the actual prizes will be released as we get closer to the competition date.

Further, newly for this year we might run some interesting mini-events, which we will announce closer to the competition date, such as potentially a puzzle hunt and integration bee!

If you would like to register for the competition, the registration form can be found at https://pvmt.org/register.html.

Additionally, more information about PVMT can be found at https://pvmt.org

If you have any questions not answered in the below FAQ, feel free to ask in this thread or email us at falconsdomath@gmail.com!

We look forward to your participation!

MOP Qualification

What are the different channels for MOP/IMO qualification? I've read the Wikipedia article, but I've also read things that disagree with it. Can someone provide authoritative information? Also, can seniors not qualify for MOP/IMO if they didn't go to MOP after junior year?

I'm pretty sure I've posted this before but I can't find a link :(. Note that the distinction between Red and Green MOP keeps changing so I'll stick to last year's system.

Black MOP: To qualify, you must have made MOP and then the TST group in the previous year, and then you must have done well enough on the TST to be a member (or alternate for) the USA IMO Team. Alternatively, it seems that USAMO winners who are part of the announced Canada IMO team also make Black MOP.

Blue MOP: To qualify, you must be among the top 15 or so non-seniors in terms of USAMO score, among those that didn't qualify for a higher MOP.

Green MOP: To qualify, you must be among the top 6 or so non-upperclassmen in terms of USAMO score or top 6 or so in terms of USAJMO score, among those that didn't qualify for a higher MOP.

Red MOP: To qualify, you must be among the top 6 or so non-upperclassmen in terms of USAMO score or top 6 or so in terms of USAJMO score.(JMO winner), among those that didn't qualify for a higher MOP.

Wikipedia is EXTREMELY outdated when it comes to MOP qualification rules.

So has it changed between years? A certain Z.B. in 2006 never qualified for TST group before yet made IMO.

Whoops, this information is incorrect. See hwl034's below post.

TST stands for Team Selection Test, and is held during MOP to select the USA IMO team.

Have you been to MOP? How do you know this?

(only asking because I'm pretty sure that's wrong, but you may be right, I thought TSTs were year round)

This information is wrong. BobaFett101 talks about the TSTST, which is used to select the people who take TST. There are 4 TST's iirc, the last being the USAMO. Source: a past MOPper

I'm pretty sure there are 5 TST's: December TST, January TST, RMM, APMO, USAMO

TSTST: A test taken during by all MOPpers during MOP. The top 20 or so qualify to be part of the TST group. The TST group takes TST tests throughout the year.
TST: A series of tests the TST group takes throughout the subsequent year. The actual tests that constitute the TSTs keep changing; most recently, the TSTs were December TST, January TST, the first day of RMM, and both days of USAMO.

You can make red/green by taking USAJMO as well.
