The MathGauss 2025 Summer Math Competition (AMC/AIME Level)
MathandPhysics-Life   5
N Today at 2:55 AM by Andyluo
Hey AoPS Community,

*Pretty sure this is allowed in Contests and Programs, asked in the Site Support to make sure.

With the summer winding down, the team at MathGauss wanted to give everyone a chance to tackle one last big challenge before heading back to school. We are thrilled to announce our first-ever MathGauss 2025 Summer Math Competition! We've poured a lot of effort into creating a unique set of problems designed to be both fun and challenging for everyone who loves the thrill of competition math.

Why Participate?
This is more than just a contest; it's a perfect opportunity to:

Sharpen your skills: Get in some high-quality practice before the official fall competition season begins.

Test your knowledge: See how you stack up on problems ranging from the cleverness of AMC 10 to the deeper insights required for early to mid AIME.

Have fun: Enjoy a set of 10 creative problems in a low-pressure, high-reward environment.

Contest Format
Structure: You will have 45 minutes to solve 10 short-answer problems.

Difficulty & Style: The problems are crafted to test a broad range of skills, mirroring the style of official competitions. Expect to see questions that require clever thinking and elegant solutions. Ranges from early AMC 10 to mid AIME.

Answer Format: All answers are positive integers. There is no need to input units or any special formatting.

Scoring: Your final rank is determined by the number of correct answers. To break ties, we will use the time of your final submission(when you click the submit button). There is no penalty for incorrect guesses, so we encourage you to attempt every problem!

Prizes
We believe in rewarding hard work, so we've put together a great prize package for our top competitors!

Top 3 Finishers :first: : Receive a 6-month MathGauss Olympian Subscription completely free. This is your all-access pass to our most advanced training materials.

Places 4-10 : Receive a 50% discount on a yearlong MathGauss Olympian Subscription.

Places 11-20 : Receive a 25% discount on a one-month MathGauss Olympian Subscription.

Contest Window
The submission window is open! The contest officially closes on August 10th, 2025, at 12:00 AM Pacific Time. Make sure to give yourself enough time to complete your attempt before the deadline!

How to Participate :pilot:
Getting started is simple:

1. Navigate to the official contest page here(will be up soon): MathGauss Contest

2. Log in to your existing MathGauss account or create a new one.

3. Take the contest.

Crucially, please use your real email address when registering. This is the only way we can contact you to deliver your prize if you place in the top 20.

We're incredibly excited to see the clever solutions you all come up with. We hope you enjoy the challenge!

Good luck to everyone,
The MathGauss Team

Athemath Fall 2025 Applications Are Open!
cosmicflame   17
N Today at 2:48 AM by Inaaya
IMAGE Athemath Fall '25 applications are now open! IMAGE

Athemath is a virtual program bringing together extraordinary young women through math. Founded by alifenix- in 2020, we offer high-quality math contest classes taught by female MOP alumni, office hours, seminars about all sorts of interesting topics, fun clubs to meet other people with similar interests, and a wholesome, active Discord community with 400+ members and counting! Students also get to join Athemath teams and travel to in-person math contests such as HMMT, PUMaC, and CMWMC. It’s like a summer camp, but at 25% intensity, virtual, and during the school year!

IMAGE $ $ Who are we?

Athemath was founded by Ali Cy in 2020 to create a community for young female mathematicians all around the world. Since its founding, our program has grown to over 400 members, and this semester, we have a total of 26 staff members, including 10 teachers and 13 TAs coming from 7 countries (you can read about the history of the program here, including student testimonials!). Our staff includes many IMO/EGMO medalists and MOPpers, a lot of whom are Athemath alumni themselves. Read more about our awesome staff members here!

IMAGE $ $ How does Athemath work?

The Fall '25 semester will be from September 20th to December 31st, lasting 14 weeks, and will include:

Weekly math classes ranging in difficulty from AMC to Olympiad level, with 6 lecture classes and 5 check-in sessions to learn math, groupsolve problems together, and get to know other people! Each class is complete with handouts, an optional problem set, and full recordings of the lectures. You can find our course catalog here!

Multiple office hour sessions happening throughout each week where students can ask questions about math problems, learn new concepts, and hang out together

Seminars about all sorts of different topics such as higher math, general life advice, and unique perspectives

Problem of the Day seasons with handpicked problems in order of increasing difficulty each week

Clubs to connect with other people over shared interests, with interest channels in our 24/7 Discord lounge

The opportunity to join Athemath teams and travel to contests like HMMT and CMIMC; everyone in Athemath is also invited to meetups at contests such as MP4G!

Collecting points for the houses students are sorted into at the beginning of each semester

An active Discord server with 400+ members where students can meet other talented math enthusiasts

...and more! See our virtual program page for more details and information!
The program is $90 per semester, and we offer financial aid which waives the class fee if necessary.

IMAGE $ $ Should I apply?

If you're a non-binary or female student who is interested in joining our community, we really encourage you to apply! You'd be a good fit if you're in middle or high school, can score at least a 60 on the AMC 10, and have not yet qualified for MOP, but even if you're outside this range, feel free to apply if you think Athemath is right for you! Our classes range from AMC level to Olympiad level covering all four subjects (algebra, number theory, combinatorics, and geometry), so we'd likely be able to find a good fit for you no matter where you are in your math journey.

IMAGE $ $ Apply now!

Our applications have now opened at athemath.org/apply, and the deadline to submit the form is August 31st, 2025, Anywhere On Earth! The application consists of five problems and answering some short questions about yourself. You definitely don't have to solve all of the problems; in fact, most accepted students in the past solved around 2 problems, though the difficulty changes every year. You will be notified of your admissions decision shortly after the deadline!

If you have any questions, you can check our website at athemath.org, contact us at contact@athemath.org, or ask any of our staff members! We hope you apply, and have an amazing summer!

Hi,
I'm a freshman in high school that was wondering about your thoughts/opinions on the USAMO Index. I got a 100.5 on the AMC 12B and an 11 on AIME. This puts me up to an index of 210.5. Is that enough to pass?

210.5 is a really good score. Congratz! Esp for a frosh. If u dont make it this yr u def will in the future

But i'm sorry to say it may not be enuf this yr. I'll tell you why:
1. AIME was really easy
2. Due to the addition of USAJMO there may be more competition

here are my predictions
because the amc 12a/b cutoffs were at 88.5, i would assume around 11-15 on aime to get in with the minimum score. In the past, ppl with a minimum amc score (100.5) usually needed 11. The max it has ever been to move onto usamo with a minimum amc12 score was 13. Because amc12 was harder and aime was easier, i thk its pretty safe to say the minimum aime score needed to move on with a minimum amc12 passing is at most 13. If it is 13, then u'd need 88.5+10*13=218.5
but historically, this cutoff was lower than the minimum score needed by about 5-7 pts
therefore i estimate the cutoff to be 211.5-213.5 with a maximum cutoff score of 88.5+15*10=238.5
so most likely in the low to mid 210s but due to other factors it may go up to 238.5 (highly unlikely tho)

Sorry, I just had to do that. Seriously, though, Aznmathdude, please refrain from posting as if you were too lazy to spell out the word "enough." This isn't a chat room. :)

And to andrewma08, there's this magically wonderful thing called the "Search" function on the forum for you to find threads this year on stuff like that. Your post is the sixth or so of its kind, and no offense, but all of these posts on "Will I make the USAMO with a 2xx index?" are getting a bit annoying. :)

And I added smiley faces to make my advice appear less hostile.

I believe I know you Andrew Ma.
Besides that, I'm not sure if I can answer your question but just take the AMC10 next year. If you are good enough at the AIME, you'd automatically be pulled up to the USAMO.

By Murphy's law the index should be your index +0.5, if your index is within the questionable range. Otherwise who knows what it could be?

For what it's worth (not much), my intuition says that cutoff will be around 215.5 (which, incidentally, is my index), and Murphy's Law says it'll be 216. I guess we'll all see soon enough, eh?

The USAMO Cutoff is definitely less than or equal to 213.5. I just got an email saying I made USAMO, but it didnt indicate the cutoff score. Good luck everyone!

I made USAJMO with a 188.5... loooool. That was probably the bottommost index.

It is, not surprisingly, shown that AoPS was considerably too high.

Are you 100% sure you got a 188.5? Because I got 189, but I'm not on this list. Is your name listed?

Thanks to everyone who replied on this post and offered me their commiseration and congratulations! I made it with a 210.5 index, probably the low end of the qualification list. :D

Congratz to all who made it! I hope I don't get a 0 now.. :P
