May is an exciting month! National MATHCOUNTS is the second week of May in Washington D.C. and our Founder, Richard Rusczyk will be presenting a seminar, Preparing Strong Math Students for College and Careers, on May 11th.

Are you interested in working towards MATHCOUNTS and don’t know where to start? We have you covered! If you have taken Prealgebra, then you are ready for MATHCOUNTS/AMC 8 Basics. Already aiming for State or National MATHCOUNTS and harder AMC 8 problems? Then our MATHCOUNTS/AMC 8 Advanced course is for you.

Summer camps are starting next month at the Virtual Campus in math and language arts that are 2 - to 4 - weeks in duration. Spaces are still available - don’t miss your chance to have an enriching summer experience. There are middle and high school competition math camps as well as Math Beasts camps that review key topics coupled with fun explorations covering areas such as graph theory (Math Beasts Camp 6), cryptography (Math Beasts Camp 7-8), and topology (Math Beasts Camp 8-9)!

Be sure to mark your calendars for the following upcoming events:

May 9th, 4:30pm PT/7:30pm ET, Casework 2: Overwhelming Evidence — A Text Adventure, a game where participants will work together to navigate the map, solve puzzles, and win! All are welcome.

May 19th, 4:30pm PT/7:30pm ET, What's Next After Beast Academy?, designed for students finishing Beast Academy and ready for Prealgebra 1.

May 20th, 4:00pm PT/7:00pm ET, Mathcamp 2025 Qualifying Quiz Part 1 Math Jam, Problems 1 to 4, join the Canada/USA Mathcamp staff for this exciting Math Jam, where they discuss solutions to Problems 1 to 4 of the 2025 Mathcamp Qualifying Quiz!

May 21st, 4:00pm PT/7:00pm ET, Mathcamp 2025 Qualifying Quiz Part 2 Math Jam, Problems 5 and 6, Canada/USA Mathcamp staff will discuss solutions to Problems 5 and 6 of the 2025 Mathcamp Qualifying Quiz!
Hello to all creative problem solvers,

Do you want to work on a fun, untimed team math competition with amazing questions by MOPpers and IMO & EGMO medalists? $\phantom{You lost the game.}$
Do you want to have a chance to win thousands in cash and raffle prizes (no matter your skill level)?

Check out the fifth annual iteration of the

Online Monmouth Math Competition!

Online Monmouth Math Competition, or OMMC, is a 501c3 accredited nonprofit organization managed by adults, college students, and high schoolers which aims to give talented high school and middle school students an exciting way to develop their skills in mathematics.

Our website: https://www.ommcofficial.org/
Our Discord (6000+ members): https://tinyurl.com/joinommc
Test portal: https://ommc-test-portal.vercel.app/

This is not a local competition; any student 18 or younger anywhere in the world can attend. We have changed some elements of our contest format, so read carefully and thoroughly. Join our Discord or monitor this thread for updates and test releases.

How hard is it?

We plan to raffle out a TON of prizes over all competitors regardless of performance. So just submit: a few minutes of your time will give you a great chance to win amazing prizes!

Teams are free to edit their submissions before the period ends, even after they submit.

Final Round: May 26th - May 28th
The top placing teams will qualify for this invitational round (5-10 questions). The final round consists of 5-10 proof questions. Teams again will have the entire time interval to work on these questions and can submit their proofs any time during this interval. Teams are free to edit their submissions before the period ends, even after they submit.

Camp Conway/Camp Sierpinski Acceptance
fossasor   8
N 2 hours ago by Ruegerbyrd
(trying this again in a different thread now that it's later)

I've been accepted into Camp Conway, which is a part of National Math Camps, a organization of Math Camps that currently includes two: Camp Conway and Camp Sierpinski. Camp Conway is located at Harvey Mudd in California and happens during the first half of summer, while Camp Sierpinski is in North Carolina's research triangle and happens during the second half. Each of them has two two-week long sessions that accept 30 people (it's very focused on social connection), which means 120 people will be accepted to the program in total.

Given how much of the math community is on aops, I think there's a decent chance one of the 120 people might see this thread. So - has anyone here been accepted into Camp Conway or Camp Sierpinski? If so, which session are you going during, and what are you looking forward to?

I'll be attending during the second session of Conway in the first few weeks of July - I'm looking forward to the Topics Classes as a lot of them sound pretty fun.

I worked many hours on my application, hoping I would get in, but I slacked off halfway through. I always wanted to come to Mathcamp after attending MathPath the previous summer, but you apply to a summer camp with a 7% acceptance rate of very talented individuals, things won't go your way more often than not.

I don't regret my application and I certainly don't think they should reconsider any application unless something crazy happened (like someone was confirmed to cheat). After looking at the page in the morning and seeing the words "not accepted" bolded at the top, i didn't really feel anything. Just "emptiness" or "nothing." The rest of the day was painful, and I kept thinking the fact that the decision letter was copypasted was a personal attack (it isn't).

Once I got home from school, that "emptiness" transitioned into a whole slew of negative emotions. I trudged through an Evan Chen handout about Functional Equations, telling myself "I'm going to lock in this year." I checked my grades for the biology test I took first period in the morning and was surprised that i didn't bomb it and got a 95.5% somehow, despite my nonexistent emotional stability and self-control.

I wrote in my About Me that competitions and applications can make people feel inadequate. But I've never experienced it as firsthand as this—being rejected from a camp that I spent hundreds of hours working on an application for. I will almost certainly apply next year, and am not sure what will happen next year. I would like to tell myself that I'm going to lock in and make it next year, but in all honesty I have no idea where I'll be one year from now.

I've never been the top player at any competitions or math in general. I'm only a kid who likes solving math problems. I will always find joy in solving problems, like I did seeing my first AMC 8 test, but Mathcamp 2025 will not be part of my life story, but the scars from its application will be.

This is all cope, just needed a place to put my sadness. If you disagree, please spare the hate and just don't comment, I know what this community is like.

solid resume for higher math? taken a bunch of "college level classes" for whatever that means at my school
AP calc 5 in 7th grade

This is likely a top 3 profile (in competition math) among 9th graders in the US. The camp admission officers waitlisted you probably because they thought you are going to MOP again this year. It does not mean that you are not as strong as the other applicants.

waitlisted :(

app:
almost full solve (except 2 vs 3 on 6c and the bonus on 2)
solid essay i think? not really sure

stats:
9th grade
2x jmo
1x red mop
solid resume for higher math? taken a bunch of "college level classes" for whatever that means at my school
AP calc 5 in 7th grade

This is likely a top 3 profile (in competition math) among 9th graders in the US. The camp admission officers waitlisted you probably because they thought you are going to MOP again this year. It does not mean that you are not as strong as the other applicants.

You can attend both MOP and MCSP in the same summer—they do not conflict.

i think its because if youve already mopped then the curriculum wouldnt be good for you

MOP and MCSP focus on different things, and there is always a plethora of MOPpers who attend.
