AoPS designed these courses to help our top students get the deep focus they need to succeed in their specific competition goals. Check out the details at this link for all our WOOT programs in math, computer science, chemistry, and physics.

Looking for summer camps in math and language arts? Be sure to check out the video-based summer camps offered at the Virtual Campus that are 2- to 4-weeks in duration. There are middle and high school competition math camps as well as Math Beasts camps that review key topics coupled with fun explorations covering areas such as graph theory (Math Beasts Camp 6), cryptography (Math Beasts Camp 7-8), and topology (Math Beasts Camp 8-9)!

Be sure to mark your calendars for the following events:

Introducing myself at AoPS, and what's your magic wand?
asuth_asuth   350
N 33 minutes ago by jkim0656
Hi!

I'm Andrew Sutherland. I'm the new Chief Product Officer at AoPS. As you may have read, Richard is retiring and Ben Kornell and I are working together to lead the company now. I'm leading all the software and digital stuff at AoPS. I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself! I'm really excited to be part of the special community that is AoPS.

Previously, I founded Quizlet as a 15-year-old high school student. I did Course 6 at MIT and then left to lead Quizlet full-time for a total of 14 years. I took a few years off and now I'm doing AoPS! I wrote more about all that on my blog: https://asuth.com/im-joining-aops

I have a question for all of you. If you could wave a magic wand, and change anything about AoPS, what would it be? All suggestions welcome! Thank you.

AoPS Wiki signs out
k1glaucus   17
N 2 hours ago by Yihangzh
Summary of the problem: Whenever I go to AoPS wiki, it signs me out
Page URL: https://artofproblemsolving.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to AoPS wiki
2. In the top right where normally it would show your profile, it shows the sign in button
3. Pressing the sign in button also does not do anything for me, it just refreshes the page
4. If I go to any page I can't edit it, so it's not just a display bug
Expected behavior: I stay signed in
Frequency: Every time
Operating system(s): macOS Sonoma
Browser(s), including version: Safari
Additional information: Clicking sign in doesn't work, it just refrfeshes the page, and if I go to any other page I'm signed in again.

How many spheres are needed to shield a point source of light?
Unfortunately, I didn't find a suitable solution for it on the page below:

Here too, two different solutions are given:

Summary of the problem: searching literally anything doesn't give any results
Page URL: https://artofproblemsolving.com/community/search-private
Steps to reproduce:
1. Search literally anything!!! Any key words that you know are obviously present in your PMs. It does not give any search results.
Expected behavior: it should give search results similar to searching in forums
Frequency: every time
Browser(s), including version: chrome

Matrix problem

N Yesterday at 3:43 PM by loup blanc
The matrix \( A = (a_{ij}) \in Mat_p(\mathbb{C}) \) is defined by the conditions
\( a_{12} = a_{23} = \dots = a_{(p-1)p} = 1 \) and \( a_{ij} = 0 \) for a set of indices \( (i,j) \).
Prove that there do not exist nonzero matrices \( B, C \in Mat_p(\mathbb{C}) \) satisfying the equation
\[
(I_p + A)^n = B^n + C^n.
\]$\forall$ $n$ is a postive integer.

Suppose $$x_1=\frac\pi2,\quad x_{n+1}=x_n-\frac{\sin x_n}{n+1},$$I can prove that the sequence $\{nx_n\}$ is convergent by monotone bounded convergence theorem.
Is there any method to compute the limit of $\{nx_n\}$, or give the asymptotic representation of $\{nx_n\}$? Any help and hints will welcome!

Several posts have been made about this years before, but the office hours banner hasn't appeared yet even though I refreshed the page multiple times. It has been 50 minutes since when office hours should have started and no mods have responded to a question I posted 3 hours ago (relative to last edit). Can others confirm?

I think even during office hours mods can take a while sometimes to respond, partly because office hour is also the time when most students are asking their questions. I'm not sure abt the banner though.

Thanks for letting us know! We did see that you received a reply the following day, though that took longer than you hoped for and we're looking into that - we're always trying to improve. As for the banner, thanks for pointing it out! I'm not sure what happened there, so I let the teams know.
