Source: Use your common sense! (enough is enough)
Some users don't want to learn, some other simply ignore advises.
But please follow the following guideline:

To make it short: ALWAYS USE YOUR COMMON SENSE IF POSTING!
If you don't have common sense, don't post.

More specifically:

For new threads:

a) Good, meaningful title:
The title has to say what the problem is about in best way possible.
If that title occured already, it's definitely bad. And contest names aren't good either.
That's in fact a requirement for being able to search old problems.

Examples:
Bad titles:
- "Hard"/"Medium"/"Easy" (if you find it so cool how hard/easy it is, tell it in the post and use a title that tells us the problem)
- "Number Theory" (hey guy, guess why this forum's named that way¿ and is it the only such problem on earth¿)
- "Fibonacci" (there are millions of Fibonacci problems out there, all posted and named the same...)
- "Chinese TST 2003" (does this say anything about the problem¿)
Good titles:
- "On divisors of a³+2b³+4c³-6abc"
- "Number of solutions to x²+y²=6z²"
- "Fibonacci numbers are never squares"

b) Use search function:
Before posting a "new" problem spend at least two, better five, minutes to look if this problem was posted before. If it was, don't repost it. If you have anything important to say on topic, post it in one of the older threads.
If the thread is locked cause of this, use search function.

Update (by Amir Hossein). The best way to search for two keywords in AoPS is to input
[code]+"first keyword" +"second keyword"[/code]
so that any post containing both strings "first word" and "second form".

c) Good problem statement:
Some recent really bad post was:
[quote]$lim_{n\to 1}^{+\infty}\frac{1}{n}-lnn$[/quote]
It contains no question and no answer.
If you do this, too, you are on the best way to get your thread deleted. Write everything clearly, define where your variables come from (and define the "natural" numbers if used). Additionally read your post at least twice before submitting. After you sent it, read it again and use the Edit-Button if necessary to correct errors.

For answers to already existing threads:

d) Of any interest and with content:
Don't post things that are more trivial than completely obvious. For example, if the question is to solve $x^{3}+y^{3}=z^{3}$, do not answer with "$x=y=z=0$ is a solution" only. Either you post any kind of proof or at least something unexpected (like "$x=1337, y=481, z=42$ is the smallest solution). Someone that does not see that $x=y=z=0$ is a solution of the above without your post is completely wrong here, this is an IMO-level forum.
Similar, posting "I have solved this problem" but not posting anything else is not welcome; it even looks that you just want to show off what a genius you are.

e) Well written and checked answers:
Like c) for new threads, check your solutions at least twice for mistakes. And after sending, read it again and use the Edit-Button if necessary to correct errors.

To repeat it: ALWAYS USE YOUR COMMON SENSE IF POSTING!

Everything definitely out of range of common sense will be locked or deleted (exept for new users having less than about 42 posts, they are newbies and need/get some time to learn).

The above rules will be applied from next monday (5. march of 2007).
Feel free to discuss on this here.

k i Read me first / How to write a bug report
slester   3
N May 4, 2019 by LauraZed
Greetings, AoPS users!

If you're reading this post, that means you've come across some kind of bug, error, or misbehavior, which nobody likes! To help us developers solve the problem as quickly as possible, we need enough information to understand what happened. Following these guidelines will help us squash those bugs more effectively.

Before submitting a bug report, please confirm the issue exists in other browsers or other computers if you have access to them.

For a list of many common questions and issues, please see our user created FAQ, Community FAQ, or For the Win! FAQ.

What is a bug?
A bug is a misbehavior that is reproducible. If a refresh makes it go away 100% of the time, then it isn't a bug, but rather a glitch. That's when your browser has some strange file cached, or for some reason doesn't render the page like it should. Please don't report glitches, since we generally cannot fix them. A glitch that happens more than a few times, though, could be an intermittent bug.

If something is wrong in the wiki, you can change it! The AoPS Wiki is user-editable, and it may be defaced from time to time. You can revert these changes yourself, but if you notice a particular user defacing the wiki, please let an admin know.

The subject
The subject line should explain as clearly as possible what went wrong.

Bad: Forum doesn't work
Good: Switching between threads quickly shows blank page.

The report
Use this format to report bugs. Be as specific as possible. If you don't know the answer exactly, give us as much information as you know. Attaching a screenshot is helpful if you can take one.

Summary of the problem:
Page URL:
Steps to reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
...
Expected behavior:
Frequency:
Operating system(s):
Browser(s), including version:
Additional information:

If your computer or tablet is school issued, please indicate this under Additional information.

Example
Summary of the problem: When I click back and forth between two threads in the site support section, the content of the threads no longer show up. (See attached screenshot.)
Page URL: http://artofproblemsolving.com/community/c10_site_support
Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to the Site Support forum.
2. Click on any thread.
3. Click quickly on a different thread.
Expected behavior: To see the second thread.
Frequency: Every time
Operating system: Mac OS X
Browser: Chrome and Firefox
Additional information: Only happens in the Site Support forum. My tablet is school issued, but I have the problem at both school and home.

How to take a screenshot
Mac OS X: If you type ⌘+Shift+4, you'll get a "crosshairs" that lets you take a custom screenshot size. Just click and drag to select the area you want to take a picture of. If you type ⌘+Shift+4+space, you can take a screenshot of a specific window. All screenshots will show up on your desktop.

Windows: Hit the Windows logo key+PrtScn, and a screenshot of your entire screen. Alternatively, you can hit Alt+PrtScn to take a screenshot of the currently selected window. All screenshots are saved to the Pictures → Screenshots folder.

Advanced
If you're a bit more comfortable with how browsers work, you can also show us what happens in the JavaScript console.

In Chrome, type CTRL+Shift+J (Windows, Linux) or ⌘+Option+J (Mac).
In Firefox, type CTRL+Shift+K (Windows, Linux) or ⌘+Option+K (Mac).
In Internet Explorer, it's the F12 key.
In Safari, first enable the Develop menu: Preferences → Advanced, click "Show Develop menu in menu bar." Then either go to Develop → Show Error console or type Option+⌘+C.

It'll look something like this:

Introducing myself at AoPS, and what's your magic wand?

Hi!

I'm Andrew Sutherland. I'm the new Chief Product Officer at AoPS. As you may have read, Richard is retiring and Ben Kornell and I are working together to lead the company now. I'm leading all the software and digital stuff at AoPS. I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself! I'm really excited to be part of the special community that is AoPS.

Previously, I founded Quizlet as a 15-year-old high school student. I did Course 6 at MIT and then left to lead Quizlet full-time for a total of 14 years. I took a few years off and now I'm doing AoPS! I wrote more about all that on my blog: https://asuth.com/im-joining-aops

I have a question for all of you. If you could wave a magic wand, and change anything about AoPS, what would it be? All suggestions welcome! Thank you.

Source: Azerbaijan JBMO TST 2018, D2 P4
In the beginning, there are $100$ cards on the table, and each card has a positive integer written on it. An odd number is written on exactly $43$ cards. Every minute, the following operation is performed: for all possible sets of $3$ cards on the table, the product of the numbers on these three cards is calculated, all the obtained results are summed, and this sum is written on a new card and placed on the table. A day later, it turns out that there is a card on the table, the number written on this card is divisible by $2^{2018}.$ Prove that one hour after the start of the process, there was a card on the table that the number written on that card is divisible by $2^{2018}.$

GCD and LCM operations
BR1F1SZ   1
N 2 hours ago by WallyWalrus
Source: 2025 Francophone MO Juniors P4
Charlotte writes the integers $1,2,3,\ldots,2025$ on the board. Charlotte has two operations available: the GCD operation and the LCM operation.
[list]
[*]The GCD operation consists of choosing two integers $a$ and $b$ written on the board, erasing them, and writing the integer $\operatorname{gcd}(a, b)$.
[*]The LCM operation consists of choosing two integers $a$ and $b$ written on the board, erasing them, and writing the integer $\operatorname{lcm}(a, b)$.
[/list]
An integer $N$ is called a winning number if there exists a sequence of operations such that, at the end, the only integer left on the board is $N$. Find all winning integers among $\{1,2,3,\ldots,2025\}$ and, for each of them, determine the minimum number of GCD operations Charlotte must use.

Note: The number $\operatorname{gcd}(a, b)$ denotes the greatest common divisor of $a$ and $b$, while the number $\operatorname{lcm}(a, b)$ denotes the least common multiple of $a$ and $b$.

Please do not report the following known issues unless you are able to tell us in detail how to recreate the issue:
  • Avatar or user appearing twice in topic or private message. Please just refresh.
  • Friends showing twice. Please refresh.
  • Not being able to search a forum after going back a page.
  • The edit icon showing for a message that is not yours.

Please also do not post issues regarding problems in your homework, Alcumus, For the Win!, or MATHCOUNTS Trainer. Please use the corresponding report problem features of the applications. Site Support staff are unable to help with these issues.

Bad: Forum doesn't work
Bad: Question
Good: Switching between threads quickly shows blank page.

We may remove posts for which the topic does not easily identify the issue. Topics named such as "Question", "Weird issue," "Why?" and the like will likely be removed.

Frequency:
Operating system(s):

Here are some ways to find answers to common questions. Please use these tips before posting.

You can find answers to many common questions by using search. One great way to do this is using the "Filter by tag" option available above the topic list. For instance, say you wanted to know if we are going to build a mobile app. Typing "mob" will bring up two tags, "mobile" and "mobile app." Clicking on one of those tags will take you to posts tagged as such.

Sadly, not enough people use appropriate tags in their posts, so you can also do a more comprehensive search. This can be found in the Community menu by clicking Search. This will provide you a basic search. You can get a more advances search by clicking the "Click here to search titles, posts, sources, and tags separately" under the search by term option.

We also have FAQs! Community users have created the Art of Problem Solving FAQ. There's also a small FAQ with the most common of common questions at https://aops.com/faq. In fact, the questions are so common that I see two of the questions found of the FAQ in the 10 most recent topics here at the time of writing.

Most common questions:

Can I change my username?
As indicated during sign-up, you can not change your username.

How do I add a title to hidden content in forums?
Use the following bbCode snippet, replacing title here with whatever text you wish to show.
[hide="title here"]Content[/hide]

Why did my Alcumus score change?
Because you answered a problem wrong in a topic. The score is not based on percent correct, but based upon the percent probability the system thinks you have of getting a problem correct in a topic. It is just a guess. Don't worry too much about it.

How do I remove a topic from the My Topics feed?
Hold down the Control key (if you're on Windows) or Command key (if you're on a Mac) and then click on the topic you want to remove from that feed, then confirm that you want to remove that topic in the module that pops up!

Should I report an issue I saw only one time and can not re-create?
No, you should not. Glitches happen for all sorts of reasons ranging from your personal computer or phone, your internet service provider, your network connection, and our application. However, if you can re-create the issue, and indicate clearly how others can re-create the issue, feel free to report the issue.

What's a double, triple, quadruple, octuple reap? What is a free reap?
Bonuses are given out at random in Reaper which double, triple, etc. the time reaped. For instance, if you were to reap 1 minute, and got lucky with a double reap, 2 minutes would actually be added to your score. You may also occasionally get a free reap. This will allow you to reap when you still have to wait a bit of time before you can reap again. Free reaps are not transferable between games.

Bar is missing in equation or underline is missing from hide tag
You will need to set your browser to view at 100% or larger in order to make sure you see everything.

Post says created in future or long before it was actually created
Please make sure your system clock synced to the correct time.

Why can't I change my avatar or update my profile information?
You can update your profile after you have been an active member for two weeks.

Why do usernames, moderators, or admins show in a different color in blogs?
Blogs utilize a different stylesheet that the community and therefore usernames, especially those of moderators and admins, may appear in a different color than they do in the rest of the community.

Where can I find answers to a lot more questions?
The Art of Problem Solving FAQ and searching the Site Support forum are great places to find answers to your questions.

Adding to the common questions above, here are some answers to common suggestions:

Can AoPS create a mobile app?
We don't have any plans to make an AoPS app at this time. Since our website is designed to adapt to small screens, any mobile app that we created would basically be what the website looks like when you access it through the browser of a mobile device.

Can you add a way to report a user?
You can report one of the user's posts, and add info in the "Further details" box that explains why you want to report the user in general, or email sheriff@aops.com.

Will you bring back downvotes, or change the upvote system to a post rating system?
Nope.

Can you add more roles/ranks to forums?
We're not planning to add additional user roles for forums, or allow forum admins to customize the permissions of other admins/mods of that forum. Keeping the user roles consistent across forums makes it easy to understand what a user with a certain role in a forum has the ability to do!

Also, remember that when you make another user an admin of a forum you've made, you're giving them the ability to add/remove mods and admins from the forum along with some other privileges. So don't make someone an admin unless you want them to have these abilities and trust them to use them responsibly! We advise against making someone else an admin of your forum for other reasons.
