Reflection on 2014

2014 - Without a doubt the best year of my life. To be honest, the things that were most important to me went well - I somehow got HM on USAMO and made Blue MOP, I somehow qualified to NFL Nationals (shoutout to my amazing former partner, Maya Simkin) and the Tournament of Champions (shoutout to my amazing current partner, Yasmine Ramachandra), and I was accepted to the majority of colleges I applied to early.
But these things are not what made my year great. When I think back on the year, I don't really remember how I felt when I saw the USAMO results page or opened my MIT admission decision. However, I do remember Alex Zhu saying dating could be optimized through the secretary problem, and a certain someone arguing that that was only true if n = 0. I remember joking about Zsigmondy's theorem last summer. I remember going to San Francisco with my best friend and hiking up a mountain while completely ignoring "WARNING: eroded earth" signs. I remember working for weeks on an impossible problem with IMO gold medalists and TST group members. I remember listening to the incredibly funny "John Cena Prank Call" with my three hotel roommates at the Blake Debate Tournament last week.
I'll be going to college next year (if I graduate that is...
). It's time to grow up. Next year, I'm not going to go to anymore debate tournaments, or attend any more math competitions (well there's Putnam but it doesn't really matter). I want to learn things like programming, and watch more anime, and well, do a lot of things. But I have another four (hopefully) years to do that in college. What matters right now is maintaining the friendships I've made this year and those I made in years past.
And that's my New Year's Resolution.
Oh and I also resolve to work out weekly and get ripped, and to lay off coffee and chocolate.
