[CASH PRIZES] IndyINTEGIRLS Spring Math Competition
Indy_Integirls   12
N 2 hours ago by tikachaudhuri
IMAGE

Greetings, AoPS! IndyINTEGIRLS will be hosting a virtual math competition on May 25,
2024 from 12 PM to 3 PM EST.
Join other woman-identifying and/or non-binary "STEMinists" in solving problems, socializing, playing games, winning prizes, and more! If you are interested in competing, please register here!

----------

Important Information

Eligibility: This competition is open to all woman-identifying and non-binary students in middle and high school. Non-Indiana residents and international students are welcome as well!

Format: There will be a middle school and high school division. In each separate division, there will be an individual round and a team round, where students are grouped into teams of 3-4 and collaboratively solve a set of difficult problems. There will also be a buzzer/countdown/Kahoot-style round, where students from both divisions are grouped together to compete in a MATHCOUNTS-style countdown round! There will be prizes for the top competitors in each division.

Problem Difficulty: Our amazing team of problem writers is working hard to ensure that there will be problems for problem-solvers of all levels! The middle school problems will range from MATHCOUNTS school round to AMC 10 level, while the high school problems will be for more advanced problem-solvers. The team round problems will cover various difficulty levels and are meant to be more difficult, while the countdown/buzzer/Kahoot round questions will be similar to MATHCOUNTS state to MATHCOUNTS Nationals countdown round in difficulty.

Platform: This contest will be held virtually through Zoom. All competitors are required to have their cameras turned on at all times unless they have a reason for otherwise. Proctors and volunteers will be monitoring students at all times to prevent cheating and to create a fair environment for all students.

Prizes: At this moment, prizes are TBD, and more information will be provided and attached to this post as the competition date approaches. Rest assured, IndyINTEGIRLS has historically given out very generous cash prizes, and we intend on maintaining this generosity into our Spring Competition.

Contact & Connect With Us: Follow us on Instagram @indy.integirls, join our Discord, follow us on TikTok @indy.integirls, and email us at indy@integirls.org.

---------
Help Us Out

Please help us in sharing the news of this competition! Our amazing team of officers has worked very hard to provide this educational opportunity to as many students as possible, and we would appreciate it if you could help us spread the word!

Find, with proof, the least integer $N$ such that if any $2016$ elements are removed from the set ${1, 2,...,N}$, one can still find $2016$ distinct numbers among the remaining elements with sum $N$.

Let $ABC$ be a triangle with incenter $I$, incircle $\gamma$ and circumcircle $\Gamma$. Let $M,N,P$ be the midpoints of sides $\overline{BC}$, $\overline{CA}$, $\overline{AB}$ and let $E,F$ be the tangency points of $\gamma$ with $\overline{CA}$ and $\overline{AB}$, respectively. Let $U,V$ be the intersections of line $EF$ with line $MN$ and line $MP$, respectively, and let $X$ be the midpoint of arc $BAC$ of $\Gamma$.

(a) Prove that $I$ lies on ray $CV$.

(b) Prove that line $XI$ bisects $\overline{UV}$.

k USAMTS LIED
jcoons91   69
N Apr 24, 2025 by aliz
Yeah. I missed USAJMO. And after today, I’m not even surprised anymore. Just disappointed. Because the rumors were true: USAMTS did raise the bar, even though we were told it wouldn’t.

Look at the numbers—292 qualifiers this year, nearly identical to last year’s count. But wait, wasn’t there a new batch of ~50 USAMTS qualifiers added to the pool this year.

That means that ~40-50 people more people would have made USA(J)MO if USMATS didn't lie to us.
I reached out to the MAA and they said that the AMC + AIME index will be determined normally, and then the additional students who qualify via the USAMTS -specific pathway will be added later.
That did not age well.

Whether it was intentional misdirection or just poor communication, the outcome’s the same: a bunch of us got blindsided. Those extra USAMTS spots didn’t expand the pool—they just squeezed the rest of us out. And the worst part? No transparency. No real explanation. Just a silent shift and a cutoff that doesn’t add up.

It’s frustrating. I worked hard. I hit a score that, any other year, would’ve cleared the bar. But this year? The bar moved. And we were told it wouldn’t.

So yeah, I’m calling it what it is: misleading.
And for everyone who feels robbed right now: you’re not alone.

not sure how relevant this is, but i know 3 usamts-only oly quals (didn't make index cutoff) who made mop

tbh the worst part isn’t that usamts exists or that the path is (subjectively) easier than amcs, it’s the lack of transparency and lies.

I know someone who goes to my school who was one off MOP last year (JMO) who didn't make AMO this year... MAA really needs to rethink how cutoffs are determined

i also know a guy like that, he was like one off amo :sob:, and we're canadian so we can't even take usamts

aww that sucks... but at least you have your own qualifying pathway to IMO which is comparatively much easier

Ah, but dear compatriots of cerebral discourse, you seem to be underestimating the ubiquitous legitimacy of the Orange MOP. It is not merely a mathematical intellectual implement—it is a metaphysical constant, a quantum variable in the MOPaverse. Their files were not removed—they ascended.

Please, Alex-131, I beseech you to open your third eye (and possibly your browser history) to the reality that Orange MOP holds tenure at the Illinois Mathematical and Science Academy. Stay woke. Stay MOP.

Dear Alex-131,

I am sorry if my actions have hurt your feelings. Please ignore my future attempts to encourage people about Orange MOP. I was simply trying to convince people that are not represented in the olympiad scene to take a chance at a great opportunity to show their hard work and passion. But I guess AoPS community, a place originally meant to push students to the best of their mathematical abilities, and encourage one another, has devolved to a place of pointing fingers to "USAMTS", "cheating", and "this person didn't deserve this".

Again, sorry if I offended you. I was only trying to inspire.

Warm regards.

Look at the numbers—292 qualifiers this year, nearly identical to last year’s count.

The number 292 does not look correct to me, I think it is a bit larger, so I think the premise of this post is not valid.

it is no secret that usamts has influenced the cutoffs, what other reason can explain the abnormally high cutoffs this year?

check the amc stats page

I know. My point is that I think the stats page is wrong. I don't know why the number is off, but the number of USAMO contestants should be greater than 292.
