by orangefronted, Apr 3, 2025, 6:43 AM
A store sells a strawberry flavoured candy for 1 dollar each. The store offers a promo where every 4 candy wrappers can be exchanged for one candy. If there is no limit to how many times you can exchange candy wrappers for candies, what is the maximum number of candies I can obtain with 100 dollars?

Probability NOT a perfect square
by orangefronted, Apr 1, 2025, 5:37 PM
Mike decides to play a game with himself. He begins with a score of 0 and proceeds to flip a fair coin. If he lands on heads, he adds 2 to his score. If he lands on tails, he subtracts 1 from his score. After 5 flips, what is the probability that Mike’s score is not a perfect square?

As per last year's guidelines, refrain from problem discussion until their official release on the MATHCOUNTS website.
Note that this is in no way trying to slander people who qualified through states with lower cutoffs. It is to compare cutoffs from 2022-2025. Qualifying nationals in any state is an exceptional achievement.
