Also it seems aops.com can forward arbitrary stuff after the URL.

Indeed my first thought was "Indonesian Wiki". :P

Also that blog shortcut and retaining forwarding are cool. Although the latter seems to be a pretty usual thing.

Whenever the redirect needs less keystrokes (and is not utterly awkward like aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.com) it's always usable. Unless you're so used to the original link that you type it faster than the new one, but then praciticing can get you fast too. Meh.
