Killer Sudoku

by djmathman, Jun 15, 2020, 2:45 AM

in both senses of the word

If any of you are bored and want to kill some time not by spamming Site Support, try this Sudoku! Rules are fairly simple: in addition to standard Sudoku rules, the grid is divided into some cages; whenever two consecutive cages (or singletons) are connected by an equal sign, the sum of the numbers in those two cages (or singleton) is the same. That's it; that's all you get :D

Have fun, and see if you can beat my atrocious time of TWO HOURS AND FIFTY-FIVE MINUTES

somebody's been watching cracking the cryptic

I've been doing so more regularly ever since I watched the Miracle Sudoku video. I think there's something very interesting about these Sudoku variants; they behave much more like math problems in the sense that each puzzle feels more unique with its logic ~dj

alright, took me 59 minutes because i spent 20 minutes staring at a naked single (oops i realize that, out of context, this can be interpreted in a very different way...)

absolutely beautiful puzzle!

wow I really love the mathematical problem-solving aspect of these sudoku variants. It's what I love about the USAMTS having puzzle problems for #1s, and there are so many types that I don't think I'll run out of cool stuff like this anytime soon :)

  • Do you have a link to your main blog that you started after graduating from high school, I couldn't find it. @dj I met you IRL at Awesome Math summer Program several years ago.
